A series has this scene where some small buildings appear to be portal'd in, some on trees, some on the ground, etc. This specific piece of animation was commissioned off to another studio; it wasn't done in-house.

The creator of the series later stated on tumblr that this character cannot build towers on people, since she can't build on top of organic matter. This contradicts the text there, but there's another piece of information that imo doesn't make things so open and shut.

Earlier in the series, that character states that her buildings are only as good as their foundation, since the town's not suited for construction her buildings are weaker. Doesn't this seem like a bit of a contradiction to the idea that her buildings are just portal'd in, as the first scene I linked shows?

With all this in mind, which of these pieces of information should take precedence for the profiles? Since it does notably change her abilities and weaknesses:

  • Should she have Portal Creation (using the first link) or just Creation (saying that the third link contradicts the first link)?
  • Should she be able to create towers on organic matter or not?

We tend to use explicit in-series information first, and what is stated by the author at best second.

Well personally I'd go with creation since it was the one established first in the show so the later showing go against that

Of course if in the next season there's more instances of her portaling them in then we go with it being portal magic

As for the organic stuff I'd say Death Of The Author bu the animation was out sourced so I'm not sure, I suppose we could count this as PIS

@Ant Even if that in-series information was implicit in the animation, was outsourced to another company, and has other information that's seemingly contradicted elsewhere in the series?

@Agnaa

I agree that would be a different scenario that would greatly increase the relevance of author statements.

I'm pretty sure we are dealing with Creation in this instance, going by both the creator's words and the statements from Percy herself in the third link. I'm willing to believe that the portals from the animation is either an aesthetic choice or simply how her ability looks, since we can't see how they're formed apart from just sprouting from the ground most of the rest of the time.

Also, I'm pretty sure what the creator meant was Percy cannot build on top of any living being, with things like trees happening to be an exception.

That sounds fair enough to me.

So if we're all in agreement it's creation this thread can be closed?

I think that seems fine to apply, yes.

It is best to wait until the change has been applied.

Okay. Then I will close this.
