Editing/Creating Profiles Using the Classic Mode Editor (Coding Guideline)

I figured Ant must be sick and tired of reminding people not to use Visual Editor, so I might as well state this. Keep in mind this is for the Classic Editor mode ONLY. This is also useful if people need to create new profiles as well.

-The double square brackets around the wording will hotlink to a specific page on this wiki if it exists. For example, typing in Reality Warping will link you to the Reality Warping page on this wiki.

Classic
Type this up in a notepad and save it or something. Apparently I can't just type this up in Visual Editor because it just hotlinks everything. This should probably be posted on the rules page or something just in case.

Edit: Making a Gallery In Classic Mode for Profiles:

  • Click the (Gallery) button on the right.
  • Select photo size of (185px). Otherwise, you can only add two pictures per row instead of 3.
  • Change photo orientation to (portrait) (the one on the far right).
  • Set gallery position to (center).
  • Add photos by clicking the (Add a photo butto).
  • If possible, edit the pictures in MSpaint or some picture editing program first so it shows only that character's portrait.
  • Add this text (captionalign="center") <- there are apostrophes surrounding the word center.
  • Lastly, add this text (hideaddbutton="true") <- there are apostrophes surrounding the word true.
Example: Gallery section for Darth Sidious

Thank you very much for the help. I will insert the above image as a link in the main page.

Anyway, I would appreciate if you could upload a new version of the above image with the header/tabber images, quotes, and the superhuman physical characteristics in their proper sections on the page, just to avoid potential misunderstandings down the line. Thank you.

All members are free to make suggestions here in this thread if they wish. They can be added into my post above if required.

Well, I would very much appreciate if you could make a new version of the image that is the same as the previous one, but with the tabber images and quotes at the top of the page, and the auperhuman physical characteristics in the Powers and Abilities section.

A demonstration of how to create a gallery section wouldn't hurt either.

You can check it out for the "Notable Attacks and Techniques" section as well.

That may have to wait. I would have to access the coding to how that gallery was done in classic mode; the page you have linked is currently locked.

Well, i use the visual editor.

From the visual editor you can jump to a source mode BUT this source mode is only for those who know how it works.

Using Visual Source can and does screw up the coding for when other people go to edit, and it turns very messy.

Not for me.

As i said: I can jump from the visual editor to the source mode.

I allways have used that to avoid the coding. Usually the coding errors happen due to copy and paste something from other page.

You can see in my 4000+ edits with that editor and i don't even have a single error.

I have mastered this editor long ago.

@Crazystarf I think that you can view, and copy, the source code even without being able to edit the page.

@KamiYasha Well, for many people it does, and it has resulted in an awful lot of cleaning work for myself and others.

Yes i know. I've fixed A LOT of profiles with a horrible coding.

But still the visual editor is for people that already know ALL THE CODES of the source mode as i do. This editor is for a people that have much knowledge about it.

I will keep using it. Something that i can do is a brief tutorial about it. (I know about mostly of the bugs that this editor has)

@Kami: If you are able to make a detailed guide on using the VisualMode editor, that would be great.

For me personally, I use Classic Mode most of the time and switch back to Visual Mode when editing pictures and adding bullet points and stuff.

It is probably safest to not confuse the new members into starting to try using it, as they are quite likely to repeatedly screw up and increase our workload. Keeping the rules simple is likely for the best.

I aslo prefer to use visual editor ,and most of the time it causes no problem and if it does you can access the code mode and fix it.

Well, i can do a brief tutorial the visual edior itself.

To avoid certain bugs and stuff.

Again, I am sorry, but we are not going to change the rules into allowing inexperienced members to experiment with the visual editor.

It would result in an enormous amount of cleanup work for myself and other members, and I am already extremely overtaxed enough as it is from managing this site.

We have a standard profile format that we have consistently stuck to, and are going to continue to stick to. I would appreciate if you would permanently drop this. Thank you.

Thanks. I do not mean any offense. It is just that allowing the visual editor to be used could potentially increase my workload with several hours a day from cleanup work. It sets all my alarm bells ringing.
