Was implied to be erased, confirmed in manga, but in both version they were capable to travel back in time; most likely is the Toriyama doesn't known how the nothingness works, reason why they can travel back, talk, breath, etc.
PIS and all that. I'm more of the opinion that it just erases the contents of that timeline (the multiverse and any other structure), but not necessarily time itself, as causality still seemed to function in that empty space.
ACTUALLY, "nothingness" to this degree doesn't exist in real life and isn't even a real concept that can ever exist. It's not a thing, even hypothetically. You can even look it up.
Knowing this, the artist/author can make "nothing" be whatever they want it to be without being "wrong". A place with no matter, no energy, no space, no time, and no fundemantal/"dark" forces is the same as the famous illustration of nonsensicality, The Dreaded-Squared Circle. In matters such as these, I strongly suggest the audience take the author at their word or analyze the author's intent.
I think now is the perfect time to bring these sort of facts to the table. A very famous anime/manga author has now made a prominent character that can open up these concepts to the masses. Now and Hopefully, a larger swath of these debate communities will actually be more interested in the sciences (actual answers) when doing these debates. No longer do we need to make up answers for what 2+2 equals.
Basic logic would very explicitly show that causality still functioned in that empty space, nullifying the entirety of that argument. Also, it's a very well known fact that on this Wiki, death of the author presumed automatically, so the author's intent or word generally means less than or even nothing compared to the actual display of the feats.
Anything can happen in "empty space", including violations of basic logic, since "empty space" is a violation of "basic logic" in and of itself. You can't have "empty space", not even theorhetically. It is literal nonsense, despite popular belief. "Causality" can still function, normally, in Nonsense Land.
The authors created a nonsense setting to let nonsense occur. The Grand Priest is essentially allowed to play God, here. The way Death of The Author is applied here, if what you describe is true, is unnecessarily extreme and lacks even the tiniest bit of nuance. Bias runs amok when "feats" are applied without original intent and left up to fan interpretations. Don't make the rules to the effect that all parties 'promise' they aren't biased, make the rules so that you Can't be biased.
Nonexistence isn't a violation of necessary truth, but it is, in essence, nonexistent. Space cannot exist within it, since it is nothing. In fact, nothing can exist "in" it, since it is nothing. It is nowhere and nothing, and doesn't exist.
But such an idea is not a violation of necessary truth, like 2+2 = 5 would be. That said, something existing inside of nonexistence or it being any defined "place" or "power" does violate necessary truth and it thus illogical.
Which is why it kills me that we use the Rock Paradox to keep Tier 0s not fully omnipotent even though fiction breaks necessary truths in other instances. Unless God-Man is beyond our Tier 0s, which is impossible, for breaking necessary truth by causing 2+2 = 5 to be true and every character that wields or is "nonexistent" yet still around is beyond Tier 0, then the Tier 0s we have should be omnipotent.
Well, as DarkLK, who created our system, has defined, it is impossible to prove omnipotence, so we prefer to keep our tier 0 characters as "maybe, maybe not".
Nonexistence is a "Violation of Necessary Truth", believe it or not. The eqation just doesn't look as simple as 2+2=5. See Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. Hence, why physist always find "something" when trying to reach nothingness.
"Nothingness" and Earth Being The Center of The Universe has a lot in common. Despite the fact that the Earth being the center was disproven long ago, it took generations for the masses to realize they were conceptualizing nonsense in their head. Human Logic =/= Truth, necessarily, I have found.
How does nonexistence violate necessary truths? It isn't beyond logic or reason to conceptualize the absence of existence. But, like Ant said, this is starting to derail. But to take it to my wall if you want to discuss this further.
