Why are explosions not calced with KE?

Why are explosions not calculated with the KE of the air moved and instead the ground and air burst formula? Do the formulas take the KE into consideration in some way or waht?

Because that is not how explosions works.
They produce an sudden peak on the atmospheric pressure known as overpressure, they do not displace volumes of air nor leaving a void behind.

Could you give me a source for that just so i can use it to explain to my friends that they are wrong in how they calc explosions

I mean, that is how physics work... if any they need to explain you why they assume an explosion cause displaces volumes of air and left a vaccum in a place. If you want to check you can look at the links in the calculation guides.
