What is AP

What is the concept of "Attack Potency", that the wikia uses. Is there a scientific basis for it? Why AP only uses joules when there is a blatant difference between heat energy and force/impact? Why conservation of energy completely ignored when a lot of attacks on fiction tend to disperse on impact. I find it hard to believe all fictional writers would think the entirety of energy in an attack is always concentrated in a single point and that every fictional characters work like that. So I want to hear a detailed explanation on you guys' reasoning on why you choose to use this method for verse analysis.

It's the amount of energy a character can produce in a single attack and/or the amount of energy a character can conduct per second. Heat, electricity, and cooling are calculated AP using watts as our standard measurement instead of joules; exception is if the feat was done in less than a second.
