If an explosion is the size of, if not bigger than the moon what does that mean, in terms of attack potency?

It depends on the size of the explosion. Do note that even if the explosion in question was the size of the Moon, it does not mean said explosion has enough energy to completely destroy the Moon.

This is due to the Moon's GBE keeping the parts of the Moon together.

Now, to find the yield of the explosion that is the size of the Moon, we use this equation here for Near-Total Fatalities

Y (in Megatons) = (Diameter of blast/0.25)^3/1000

  • using .25 instead of .28 as it gives more accurate results according to this calculator.
Thus, if an explosion of the size of the Moon occured, the yield of the explosion would be:

  • Diameter of Moon = 3474km
  • Y = (3474km/0.25)^3/1000 = 2.6833e9 Megatons, or 2.6833e15 Tons of TNT. Continent level+
This means that an explosion the size of the Moon would not be enough to completely destroy the Moon.
