We need to talk about passives.

So after having some BlazBlue-related discussions in places (and being accused of wanking), I feel like this might be a good thing to address in the wiki.

Passive abilities.

To be frank, our pages are kind of... well, awful. That's not true, obviously, but they tend to be when it comes to passive abilities. Why? Well... we don't list them.

That's right. Passive abilities, one of the most important parts in VS threads, aren't mentioned on the pages 99% of the time, forcing thread makers to either sift through threads and find which passive abilities exist or risking what they thought was a good match be instantly shut-down. This has been a problem in several verses, including Castlevania, Shinza Banshou, and a few others, but BlazBlue (and AFAIK Guilty Gear) are the most heinous offenders. The only exceptions to this are when the justification of the ability shows it.

Yes, I'm aware masada is already being super-revised, but that's neither here nor there.

For verses that are heavy in terms of passive hax, most notably the above ones, I have two possible proposals.

Proposal 1: A separate tabber is made for the characters who have passive hax, and it's put there. I feel as though this is the best option.

Proposal 2: Passive abilities are noted in their section. For example, "Passive Precognition", or something like that. I think this could work too, but it'd be a bit clunky for passive-heavy verses.

That's about all I have to say, and it's something I think needs to be addressed.

I mean, sometimes characters have an ability in both passive and non passive form. Like Oryx, for example. I don't think giving him a third tabber that's just the second one again is a great idea

It should seriously just be in Notable Powers & Abilities.

Does the 2nd option imply this:

Precognition (Passive) or (Passive and Active forms)

Because if so, seems resonable I reckon, though the implementation may be hectic

I don't think it has to be implemented to all pages. Just ones who are noted to be high in passive hax, IE Blazblue and Masada.

Just write passive in front of the ability

Also it's not one of the most important parts of a versus thread. Just those that are hax, which isn't as prevalent as people would like to believe.

You could just give a short description of how the ability works in brackets and save the trouble. Because "Precognition (Passive)" doesn't change anything, it would have to be explained in a vs thread either way, if it isn't mentioned in the Notable Attacks section of course.

You could, but like I said, that still doesn't change anything. It's just arbitrary if nothing is explained, and people would still ask how it works/how good it is/etc in a vs thread either way. And in the end you're back at square one.

Ah well, that is a further expansion of the topic, so we should put a pin on it, at least until the need for this passive ability listing is clarified first off.

Passive abilities are powers that are constantly active, and the characters can't control them.

Automatic ones are abilities that activate on their own, usually triggered by some things/circumstances (ex. Kira's BtD, Gironro's GER, etcetera).

This is kinda related, but can we also get the tier of which the hax work on if they are a smurf? Half the time you can't tell how good a smurf's hax are, or if they even are a smurf.

No, just syas which character they have an effect on.

Also, I'm heavily opposed to re-shaping a profile entirely around Vs. Threads reasons, the ones of which are only related to "characters with big dick hax, lul" that people constalty wnat to see in current threads.

If you are talking to me, then this isn't just for VS threads specifically. You forget that the point of these profiles is to index not only the powers and abilities of characters but how good those abilities are. Just listing which powers have worked on what characters doesn't work when they got that as part of a greater power set or through another kind of scaling, and not from raw feats.

Why would a character be unable to control a passive? Some dudes can suppress theirs, and just don't by default for example.

I say just have the file note when a power is passive or not. I don't think a new tab is needed.

Bucase it wouldn't really be passive if said character usually has this ability off?

Doesn't need to usually be off for them to be able to control it.
