Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

If I see another "b-but sonic gets away with having this feat but mario doesnt" I am downgrading the verse to tier 10 mwahahahahahhahahahahhaah 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Also, I apologize on behalf of for snarky remarks recently made not by me. But I feel that I have to speak up cause I care about the verse. I never appreciated it when light jabs were made at anyone that opposed upgrades. This should not represent the verse in any capacity. And I hope the reputation of the verse is clean, respectful, and civil. And not a smug hehe f you mod kinda beat.

People still caring about the Mario Vs Sonic dispute after 35 years is insane, lol

I think i've been one of the few non-staff members that actually defende the downgrade or, at least, its original proposal

Its pretty annoying to see people who clearly didn't check the OG thread to quickly assume that the verse is severely downplayed, staff hate it and blahblahblah

Honestly, you can have any opinion you want regarding the Verse's ratings, the important part is to mantain the community a safe and non-toxic environment. Its very mature of your part to assume the mistakes you committed, btw

Anyways Galaxy Movie, looks fun but man, is anyone else concerned with the amount of clutter..? The first film suffered from pacing if not mostly being references than story driven (Again the mainline titles were never even story driven but for a movie there isn't an excuse for a feature length film of all things) Was hoping to see Wario but whatevs, cool to see Mouser show up after 30 something years.

By the way can we talk about this

Tbf it seems most of what we’ve seen so far is all intro stuff from before Bowser Jr. attacks the castle. I am a bit worried about the baby bros plotline though.

Paper Jam 😶
All Paper Jam did was establish a parallel universe.

Read this:

(Also, Origami King states Mario to have blue eyes)

Paper Mario got separated from normal mario like 2 years ago, lol

I gotta wonder if those cosmic level Mario feats are accepted as actually being universal or whatever how do the supporters of those tiers plan on making them applicable for scaling to the base cast, for every cosmic feat in the franchise there's another 20 instances of Bowser being defeated by falling down a building or Mario being unable to break boulders without a hammer, gotta be one of the craziest uphill battles I've ever seen 😭

Tbf the cast are currently scaling to only two High 6-A feats, and I think at one point we only had two 6-C feats as well. If there were like 5+ valid universal feats I feel it’d be fair to scale the cast to them.

Tangentially related, but I’ve just been thinking about how weird the SMG ending is. Like Mario beats Bowser, saves Peach and flies off with her and the Grand Star. Then out of nowhere some random mini-planet explodes and consumes the whole universe (or just galaxy? Idek anymore).

I’ve always just seen it as Grand Star shenanigans, but a few minutes ago I realised it wasn’t even the final boss area that exploded or anything like that. It’s a random sphere to the far left of the start of the level, miles away from the boss area. Why does this random mini-planet start destabilising, and why is it capable of wiping out even a galaxy, let alone potentially a universe?

Am I missing something? Or am I just taking the funny wahoo man’s games too seriously again?

Honestly my main question is how Bowser got there, he stood on the planetoid that blew up despite being knocked into the lava of his artifical sun(? Dunno if it's meant to be a sun or just a big lava sphere).

Been a while since I personally really looked into it, but iirc the entire section of Bowser's galaxy including that planetoid was the main part of his galaxy reactor and without the Grand Star keeping it stable it went haywire and collapsed in on itself. How the explosion generated a black hole that was made was gonna potentially destroy the entire universe I have no idea, think Nintendo didn't think about the how of it all and just focused on having this cosmic event being triggered so they could have the ending revolve around the cycle of the cosmos / life and death.

Back then it was like, two 6-C feats but also a handful throughout tier 7, including some high enough to be support (and now Bananza's given us even more). I disagreed with high 6-A cause it was such a big leap and nothing really backed it up but I got outvoted.

Did some shoddy pixel scaling and tried my hand at ang sizing for the first time to try and find out how fast raphael the raven flew to get to the small ass moon for his boss fight, got 297 m/s but I'm sure someone actually good at this could get a more accurate result (Shame the moon is so small and close to the planet in this fight lol, but still a decent showing of speed)

Also played Mario Pinball Land for the first time, it was pretty bad but the boss fights were kinda alright I guess. Also one of the snow level songs kinda slapped more than it had any right too.

Random question, but is there anything in SPM that shows characters scaling to a non-Chaos Heart Count Bleck? I know he one-shots Mario at the beginning, but as I haven’t played the game I’m wondering if there’s anything that suggests them growing stronger up to his level by the end. Would be very unlikely since Count Bleck is amped by the Chaos Heart for basically the whole game, but still.

I’m asking because of the whole “he destroyed his world with the Dark Prognosticus” thing, which might be a universal feat.

Bowser in his wonder form can detect invisible characters. Any other neat abilities spotted recently? Been wanting to make another p&a crt.
I've got like 30 extra abilities for Bowser but saving that for my eventual CRT to completely overhaul his profile in the year 2050

A few of the tennis aces characters, namely Mario, Daisy, Peach, and I think Toad(?) have nothing to fear from Lucien since their wills are too strong for him to take advantage of (Poor Luigi getting shafted yet again, as is his lot in life). Bowser already has resistance to Luciens possession / mind control (I have no idea which we count it as since he's got both on his profile) so this would grant him and the above supernatural willpower since they're resisting mind or possession hax through willpower (And you know, resistance to said abilities)

I listed some powers the Dark Star / Dark Bowser don't have on their profile a few months back since AStrangeverse was working on a rework for the page, dunno how far they are with it but I'll repost what I found anyway.
And to add onto his power mimicry he should also get DNA Absorption since that's the main method it uses to copy his genetic code.

The reactive evolution stuff also shows off Bowser having a unconvential form of pain manipulation, anyone trying to absorb his dna suffers such great pain it paralyses them. He's simply built wrong.

Wart's got some cool stuff too, the manual for SMB2 states that Wart gave life to Fryguy (Advance manual says same thing, unsure how we treat the JP manual since while the game was developed / reskinned from DDP in japan they didn't write up a manual until like 1992, but it also says the same). The GBA remake shows that he did so by using his bubbles on Fryguys mask, he uses those same bubbles to turn a normal Sidestepper into Clawgrip. Whether they're the same bubbles he spits out (The apperances are slightly different) or if they're from the dream machine he used to create other monsters or not I'm not sure, but either way he'd have it listed on his profile as an innate ability or with equipment / prep.

I don't think there is, like you said he's amped the entire game and afaik we're never told how anyone compares to him before he used the Chaos Heart.

Asking here so not to clutter that thread, but I’m assuming the whole “being rusty/growing stronger” thing would apply to more than just the RPGs, right? Like if a game has some kind of overarching journey it would apply (e.g games like 3D Land or Tropical Freeze)? Or would it just be when specifically mentioned?

I'd personally leave it with when it's specifically mentioned and / or shown they get stronger throughout the game, which does apply to some games outside of the RPG's (Tennis Aces is a notable example) but some games like SMG2 actually make a point of saying how Mario get's more damaged every time he fight's Bowser in that game specifically because Bowser's the one getting stronger from learning how to use the Grand Star over the course of the game, Mario doesn't even get hinted at getting stronger to keep up it's just noted that Bowser's getting tougher to beat.

Wait hold up can I see a scan for that

I'd say only games with growth mechanics (that being the RPGs and I guess Bananza's skill tree, maybe smt else I'm forgetting). Cause realistically Mario's always doing shit so the "gets weaker due to inaction" wouldn't ever happen if that was enough

Here there are. I did misremember a bit, they don't specifically mention he's learning how to use the Grand Star more but he's not using any other source outside of Grand Stars to amp himself up so.

I personally find it very funny how Grand Star Bowser, who is apparently 4-A/3-C, canonically hits but cannot one shot a base High 6-A Mario and is also getting stronger every fight meaning he's got no reason to scale to the full 3-C output of the Grand Star even as a possibly but I'm not gonna say much more than that for the moment 'lest #they come for me...

But Mario is amped by uh... starbites...!

Please ignore that they're on opposite ends of the growth cycle and thus makes no sense for them to be at all comparable to eachother. And that that's probably not their name I just can't be ****** to look it up

Elf? I'm afraid you're mistaken. I have collected all three Gigantes pieces, and I tower above you.
Now you all have to face me as a raid boss. Good luck!

As a wise man once said: it is not hard to solo a Raid Boss if you have the proper equipment!

Or if you just steal the other guy's everything.
