Stealth Spite Threads and potential ways to cut down on them

A spite thread is a vs thread where one character has no hope of winning. The characters are generally in different enough tiers that one cannot so much that a large amount of the one character still cannot theaten the other, such is the massive gap.

A stealth spite thread is a vs thread that on the surface appears to be 'fair, by picking characters who look to be similar in tier and power, but actually when you look closer one of the characters still has 0% chance of winning. Essentially there is no possible situation where one character can win, and the thread creator knew this going into the fight with the intention to either put a loss on the weaker characters profile or a win on the others. The matchup in question is just as unfair as a high tier vs a low tier as the outcome is a 100% chance victory of one character in both cases, but while sich a more obvious stomp would easily be noticed this more subtle stomp is much more likely to sneak through.

Potential warning signs that you may be looking at a stealth stomp thread:

  • One character has a massive speed advantage over the other with other and speed is not in any way equalized
  • One character has an Ap that is too low to get past the other's durability and also has no hax to get past that durability
  • One character does have some sort of stat advantage which is their defining trait and the only thing they have going for them in this fight, but that stat is equalized and they get stomped because of it
  • One character has a very specific skillset that they need to use to fight, but the other character 'happens' to be highly or completely resistant to all of those particular abilities which makes them helpless
  • Characters would be similarly matched, except people are ignoring verse energy equalization and claiming that one characters abilities don't work while anothers do, resulting in one character being helpless
  • A character has lost to another one before, and is put into another character from the same series who is strictly stronger than the one who already won the first match
These are just signs of course, there are many others.

So with that understanding of what a 'stealth spite thread' looks like, what can we do to cut down on these?

It would be best to stick to things we could do or policies that could be enforced going forward that would require the least amount of work from our staff. I have some ideas (like not allowing the thread poster to vote or argue in their own thread), but would like to hear other people's opinions.
