Stats Equal “The Player” Tournament R1M2: Chelsea vs Classic Mega Man (0-1-0)

1,343
230
Welcome to the second match! In the left corner, an elf from a VERY large royal family, Chelsea Mamonarge!

And in the right corner, a robot who took up arms to save the world, the classic Mega Man!

All stats except intelligence are equal. Incon will be decided by coin flip.

Who wins?

The Elf: 0

The Robot: 1

The Inconclusive: 0

Ah, I remember Chelsea from a debate years ago.

That being said, she doesn't really have much abilities, especially since whatever she has, Mega Man the same abilities and many more, plus better AoE range for his AoE attacks. Combined with the fact that he is able to come back 9 times thanks to Spare Bodies, Chelsea definitely won't live long enough (let alone take 1 life) to kill the blue bomber for good.

Voting the Super Fighting Robot.

Chelsea's Danmaku is hard to dodge and from what I see Megaman has no proper resistance to time stop or reversal?

And, if we give them to her, Chelsea can have 20 healing potions that automatically restore her HP if it gets low. So that would increase her longevity.

At the same time, Chelsea's got no resistance to getting stunned with Flash Stopper or having her gravitational direction flipped upside down with Gravity Hold (Both of which are AoE screenwipes that are essentially undodgeable for her especially with the range). And like I said, Rock is allowed to screw up 9 times trying to find a viable way to defeat Chelsea thanks to spare bodies whereas Chrlsea can is only allowed to screw up never. As for the danmaku, Rock's got various shield weapons that can block those attacks.

Rock has 9 E-Tanks and an M-Tank to heal (Plus Grab Buster to steal some of Chelsea's health to heal himself) and 9 spare bodies, so Chelsea's going to be in it for a long one here.

I suppose I’ll count this as a vote in Mega Man’s favor then

Chelsea also has "undodgable" screen wipes. The difference is that time reversal powers make the undodgeable a lot more dodgeable.
She can recover from a bright flash while time is stopped.
And having gravity flipped is inherently irrelevant to a flying character. How good is this version of Megaman when it comes to in-flight combat btw.?

Fairly sure Megaman in-character isn't likely to actually use his range. He usually goes up-close instead. Which of his weapons even have more than tens of meters of range?

Btw. question regarding stats equal: How much environmental destruction do attacks do? Like, can trees and buildings be used as cover or would attacks just strike through?

Those affected by Flash Stopper are unable to move their bodies at all until it wears off around 2 seconds later, so Chelsea would be vulnerable in this period unable to reverse time.

Do note that this has, in fact, worked on flying enemies before (In which they never came back)

He's basically prone to learning the fighting styles if his opponents when first encountering them and will even try to switch between any weapon he has to see if he can find a weakness while also dodging his opponent's attacks

Doesn’t that largely depend on what values the stats are being equalized to? Or am I overthinking this? Because in this case it seems neither trees nor buildings can withstand hits from either of them anyway

Based on what do you think she requires movement to activate that? As long as she already has the item in hand... it's not like the thing has a button she presses.
It pushing fodder enemies off-screen is hardly enough to say that it would actually disable a flying character. It really only means the item can give things a push which is... not surprising.

I feel like that doesn't really answer my question? Like, I meant while flying in particular. How maneuvrable is he? Can he use all his weapons while in flight? Can he dodge 50 projectiles at once while flying? Is Rush easier to destroy than him?

Anyway, if we agree that Megaman in-character gets reasonably close he will have to deal with Chelsea doing things like making it snow explosive particles, which should keep him decently busy.

Yeah, I just wasn't sure which value you had in mind for equalization.

If we go for Chelsea's High 8-C it's an interesting question whether any attack would just go through obstacles. I think both in Chelsea and the Seven Devils and Megaman not all attacks generally penetrate all environmental structures, even for those they do destroy one shot may only destroy things partially. So one could argue that cover can potentially shield from a hit by absorbing it while it gets destroyed

Ooh, I like the sound of that for some reason

Guess I will add that the reason I ask about flight capabilities is that Chelsea has an AoE attack where she just sets the entire ground on fire for a prolonged period of time. If you can't fly that will deal tons of damage.

Actually better than I expected.
I still think dodging Chelsea is harder, though, so she should be able to consistently get in hits.
By the way, something hit me: how hot is Chelsea's fire? Because Mega Man can withstand Heat Man's Atomic Fire which is 12000⁰C.
Stat equal, so not really that relevant.
Despite common misconception, that has spread for whichever reason, temperature is not independent of AP. I mean, you're a calc group member, you surely know how specific heat directly relates energy (AP) to temperature.
For the protocol, Chelsea's flames are as hot as any High 8-C flames of their size would be.

Or if you really need a number: Her AP is 8.6*10^9 J. If we say her flames are half a cubic meter or so (too lazy to scale, take it as order of magnitude estimate) and we use air as flame medium, and regular air density we get 1.225 kg / m^3 for 0.6125 kg of air (this is a severe low end, as due to the heat of the flame it will actually be much less dense air!) then using a specific heat of air of 1006 J/(kg*K) we get the equation
0.6125 kg * 1006 J/(kg*K) * T = 8.6*10^9 J
<=>
T = 13 957 073 K
So almost 14 million°C.
Given, that's a crude estimation in all kinds of ways, but not off by a factor of 1000 in the lower end direction. Authors virtually always underestimate how hot a flame projectile has to be to have any kind of big environmental impact.
Actually, 12000°C is insanely low for Megaman's stats. In reality, if Megaman threw a baseball it would heat up to a significantly higher temperature than that. Well, fiction of course ignores that, but you get my point. At his stats, a heat weapon should be way hotter.

Anyway, the main point is that heat isn't an independent second kind of AP. It's very directly proportional to the fire's AP (unless you use extraordinarily large or small amounts of fire, as it's also proportional to mass... temperature is nothing but heat energy density).
