Squid Game General Discussion Thread

Kang No-Eul, who is the female guard from season 2, was also an immigrant who survived escaping from North Korea. I want to avoid talking in great length for obvious reasons, but this video seems quite important for the advanced levels of military training knowledge and stealth master one would need in order to survive something like that. And extensive swimming was basically stated to be something she and Kang Sae-Byuk both had to go through. Also, calling the guards "Kids" is an exaggeration; at worst they're more like late teenagers. And the youngest we seen single guard be was 19 (Which by South Korea's standards, is considered 18 anyone else). When you here someone say "You're just a kid," that's probably just a slang for younger generation; common for people in their 40's to refer to people in their 20's as kids.

Seong was able to pull the guns out of their hands harder than the guards could pull them back. Also, despite the players being heavily outgunned and somewhat out numbered, Seong was able to take out a couple guards on his own. He was also carrying the weight of the rebellion, not just in terms of leadership but also fitness. Which gives the strong impression he is comparable if not superior to Cho Hyun-Ju but season 2 (AKA a Special Forces Veteran). Otherwise, you'd think she'd be the one leading the charge as opposed to Gi-Hun or Jung-Bae. Speaking of which, there were also the fights against Thanos and his group. Thanos is thought to be Season 2's version of Deok Su, and is a street brawler for sure; though I'd argue his friend Nam-gyu takes that cake. Feats in the bathroom brawl are also comparable to some from Deok-Su's gang. Such as breaking necks with bare hands.

Again, if the person wielding the steel bars and pipes are especially strong, then taking hits without broken bones is still a solid durability feat. Also, getting hit in the back and still being able to stand on two feat would still be impressive. Realistically, even if your back wasn't broken, if a big tough gangster gave you a really good thwack with a steel pipe, the sheer fatigue in your back would normally knock the wind out of you and leave you unable to stand or walk. And yes, trained marines/soldiers are indeed among the strongest players, but even ones who aren't those such as the the thugs are often shown to be just as strong.

Yeah i mean, i can assume its a pretty tough thing to pull off..but its also something thats happened off screen that we dont know the logistics of, and i dont think we really can say, as a site, that 'escaping North Korea makes you 9-C'.

They kind of are just young adults and teens yeah, that we dont knwo the proper training regime of or whether its 'marine level'. They're mainly just holdiing the guns, and if they can rank up like the Recruiter did, then maybe

Seong taking charge from his experience and training with gun doesnt scale to the physical AP part i dont think. You can say '9-C with guns' ig but theres still nothing saying he jumped up from 10-B to 9-C in season 2 physically. There is also nothing we can use to scale Thanos to Deok Su fr. Like hes obviously scrappy, but Deok Su was a full on grown man, meanwhile Thanos kinda got pimped by Front man. Just because they play a similar role narratively, and we can see a character is accustomed to some form of fighting shouldnt really make them 9-C, which as per this wiki we use to include highly trained martial artists or marines of the top level (and then impossible street tier action heroes you see in slightly less grounded media). Giving this to every character thats seen to throw a punch or strangle someone in Squid Game doesnt make sense.

Its a durability feat for sure, but its not like the steel pipes are 100% guaranteed to break brones nonetheless so its hard to justify that just because you survived it (mainly for plot reasons too), you scale up to a level that is given to the likes of actual trained marines or highly skilled martil artists (something that Seong or his brother never were). If we can use all of this roundabout reasoning to get pretty much everyone up to 9-C (like random guards, or just a random contestant that was able to overpower another one), then it kinda defeats the seaparation of power in actual characters like Deok and Front Man
