Soul Manipulation vs Soul Manipulation Resistance

Do you need a specific type of soul manipulation resistance to resist said specific soul manipulation ability?

For example let's say character X has soul manipulation resistance because they were unaffected by attacks that damage/destroy souls.
They fight character Y who can absorb the opponents soul.
Would X resist Ys soul manipulation ability?

On one hand both are soul manip hax, but on the other they're vastly different in what they do and how they do it.

Yes, this is why soul manipulation/resistance (and any ability/resistance) needs to be explained. Just because you're soul can withstand being hit and not destroyed, that doesn't give you resistance to someone pulling your soul out from your body. Those are two different applications of soul manipulation and thus one would need two different types of soul resistance. It's just like someone having resistance to mind control but not mind destruction. Just because you can resist having your mind controlled, doesn't mean you can stop it from being obliterated.

Is this also true the other way around? If character X can resist having his soul absorbed, will character Y's Soul crushing attack affect him?

Yes, character Y's soul crushing attack should still work on character X since they only resisted their soul being absorbed, not attacked. Unless the resistance is shown to cover that type of soul hax, they should still be affected.
