Sonic X scaling

So, how exactly does Sonic X sonic have 6-C? The profile says it's because Knuckles punched the moon transceiver, which in turn caused a explosion. Except the moon only exploded since the transceiver was punched off, with Knuckles having no correlation to the explosion.
