Solid Snake and the Fox Blade

In Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, after Gray Fox dies from Metal Gear Rex, Snake picks up his Fox Blade and wields it for a few seconds before stabbing it onto the ground, would something like this be able to go into his equipment? He did not use it to fight. Here's the clip.

Nope. It's not even optional equipment because he didn't wield it in combat. MGRR Raiden has it though.
