Should i read Chthulu Mythos?

It's not for everyone, but if you like cosmic horror and stuff like that, I'd give it a read. Dagonbytes.com has almost all of the stories, since Howard left them public domain.

What do yoy mean by that?

So its like a horror story but on a cosmic scale ? Are all those creatures villains ?
Pretty much, yeah. That's why it's called Cosmic Horror, after all.

Very few of the beings are actually villains as opposed to just neutral. Off the top of my head, the only one who is confirmed to be pure, spiteful evil is Nyarlathotep.

It means he left the stories free so you are legally allowed to read them without paying and use their characters in other work.

Damn, such a good guy he was O_O

I only want to read canon material can you help me with that?

Nah, you can read them in pretty much any order you want. Most of them don't have the same main characters, and are only connected by taking place in the same verse.

More like one shots

Exactly. Almost all of them are one shot stories without the same human characters, and the only connections being the gods and other entities.

There are a few which have a specific order, however.

  • The Statement of Randolph Carter
  • The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath
  • The Silver Key
  • Through the Gates of the Silver Key
  • Out of the Aeons
In that order.

The first has Nyar doing things with Carter, right? Are there any stories that involve Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth in more than a mere mention?

The second, actually. Dream-Quest heavily features Nyar as the primary antagonist.

Yog-Sothoth actually plays a major part in Through the Gates, and iirc, it's his only speaking role.

Azzy has none (obviously), since it's always asleep. Nyar does take Carter to see Azathoth, but there's obviously no speaking from the latter.
