The Next Evolution, the Brotherhood of Guardians, are souls at first glance but they have repeatedly state that, as Guardians, they don’t simply died but evolve to their higher plane(existence).

The only reason for it is an AOE wave. Not exactly what I'd call being able to escape Rimuru nuking the place since Sally and her sword apsolutely can't kill Rimuru.
