Jim Shooter has passed away from a long battle with esophogeal cancer.

Jim made some controversial decisions, which I think we should make an effort to avoid mentioning and discussing here, but he was also an overall greatly positive influence on the western comicbook industry.

He started his career by revitalising and reinventing The Legion of Superheroes when he was just 13 years old, in 1965, continued by writing Superman, and created several classic characters for their mythologies.

In the mid-1970s he began to work as an editor and writer for Marvel Comics, including writing "The Korvac Saga".

He took over as Editor-In-Chief for Marvel Comics in 1978, at the age of 27, and became the longest serving holder of that position since Stan Lee.

During Shooter's time as Editor-in-Chief until 1987, some of Marvel Comics' most acclaimed comicbook runs of all time were launched, such as Chris Claremont and John Byrne's X-Men, John Byrne's Fantastic Four, Walter Simonson's Thor, David Michelinie and Bob Layton's Iron Man, Roger Stern's Amazing Spider-Man and Avengers, and Frank Miller and Klaus Janson's Daredevil, with excellent sales as a result.

Shooter also wrote the Secret Wars series, in which he created The Beyonder, and launched the New Universe, in which he created and wrote the Starbrand character.

After a failed attempt to buy Marvel Comics, Shooter started the then highly popular Valiant Comics universe in 1991.

He was less active and successful in the comicbook industry after that, but he has had a massive lasting positive legacy, and helped to move comic books away from a hobbyist tone into a professional business.

I hope that he Rests in Peace. 🙏❤️🕊
