Question about Megaman Battle Network

I decided to check the Megaman Battle Network profiles, and they are... Weird.

The main thing I want to ask about is why, on the profiles, the manga is considered canon to the games or anime? I've played the games, read the manga and had a comic about it (It isn't exactly a comicbook as it's usually talked to in english, but I don't know the english word for it), and the three of them heavily contradict each other story and character-wise. Want to see some examples of said contradictions?
  • In the games, Megaman.EXE and Lan only reach Synchronicity by Megaman Battle Network 4, and only encountering the concept in Battle Network 3. In tha manga, right at the beginning of the manga, in the early Megaman Battle Network 1 story, they reach Full Synchro, and not only that, but a variety that brings the Netnavi to the real world, not the contrary, which is introduced even later in the game series! Not only that, but the circumstances were nothing alike, with game Lan reaching it after meeting people actively using it and reaching a state of understanding with Megaman. In the anime, a police officer locked Lan up in a cell, and put him on a life and death situation to force him engage in Full Synchro.
  • The characters are completely different too, as is the plot. Game Lan is a bit immature and lacks discipline, but he is a pleasant kid who tries his best, is actively heroic and good-humoured. Manga Lan is very mischievous and is careless to the point of causing lethal accidents without remorse, although he does recognize his mistakes later. The plot is really nothing alike. Really, read the first few chapters of Battle Network manga and the game. The very beginning is similar enough, right up to the battle with Fireman, but even then we see some differences, with game Megaman merely defeating and banishing Fireman, and manga Megaman outright deleting it. After that, things really are nothing alike, with the manga having a character that doesn't exist in the games playing a central part on a early arc.
I may have made some mistakes as I wrote this on a hurry, but I'm genuinely confused why we consider the manga as canon to the games. They really aren't nothing alike.

I'm also confused by the ratings. The only reason I've seen for Megaman.EXE to be Solar System is him beating Geo Stelar easily, who is Solar System level. All his other relevant feats are Universal+ to Low Multiversal. Even if we take into account that Megaman.EXE canonically and consistently varies in power level depending on how emotionally motivated he is to do something and how seriously a given situation is taken, we would scale him as unquantifiably below Universal+ to Low Multiversal or some other feat we might have, not Solar System level. It isn't impossible for someone who is unquantifiably weaker than Universal+ to Low Multiversal to defeat a Solar System level being with ease.

I don't think I expressed myself clearly, but the ratings also do not make sense.

Am I missing something?

I'm not sure if the games, Anime, or Manga are the same continuity, but it was agreed last time that the 4-B scaling is super iffy. It was agreed to find better feats for the underdogs of Battle Network; Roll, Glide, Gutsman, ect. Obviously, not everyone should scale to Megaman as that's like scaling Krillin and Yamcha to Goku's base form. The only other Net Navis that should scale from the Tier 2 stuff are the strongest ones like Protoman, Bass, Colonel, and other end game bosses. But I recall @Migue79 is one of our main Megaman experts. It's kind of sad that Reppuzan is gone as he was also extremely knowledgeable on the verse.

I fully agree, the thing is that characters such as Bass should get straight Low Multiversal ratings instead of the Solar System to Low Multiversal it has at the moment, and the Solar System feat is really weird to use.

And I don't think they are canon to each other, honestly. They differ too much in plot and characters.

Ah, yes. The profiles of the MM series I'm least familiar with (by far) and haven't finished getting into happens to need the most attention. Such shit luck. 😓

Anywho, I agree that the MMBN profiles need to be decomposed due to their different stories & portrayals across media (similar to how Rock was decomposed and split into 2 separate profiles between the Megamix/Gigamix & Canon continuities). But decomposing the profiles without having a high level of knowledge of the series and its media is extremely tough. For this reason & the whole 4-B NetNavis rating fiasco, I was getting into the MMBN series starting with the games. Well, that and because I like the BN series. Unfortunately, I am barely halfway into BN1 due to life, it being a looooooooooong game and... because I forget to continue 😅.

Speaking of the 4-B NetNavis deal: The reason some of these NetNavis have this rating is scaling to BoS Hub who beat EoS Geo Stelar. IIRC, the game this happened happens after BN1 where the NetNavis are either featless or have feats that don't stack up to EoS Geo Stelar. It's worth noting that both Hub & Geo were holding back in said encounter (though to an unknown degree). I believe @Starter_Pack disagreed with the removal of the ratings in the thread this was addressed in, so I'll go ahead and tag him so he voices his opinion on this matter.

Personally, idk where to stand with the removal of the 4-B ratings, so I'll have no say in that matter until I get to finish BN1 and play that crossover game. I did find a speed feat which can be used to repurpose their speed ratings (Hub moving in-tandem with ElecMan.EXE's lightning), but no AP feat yet. Hopefully I find one by the time I finish the game, and once I do, I'll probs share it.

I will say this: unless anyone wants to jump in and help me with the BN profiles, it's going to take quite a lot of time to fix the profiles.

I'm willing to help! A while ago I had started studying the stuff of Megaman Battle Network, and I was about... Halfway through Battle Network 2, and reading up on the manga as well. While I'm focusing on other franchises at the moment, once some work on them is done, I'll gladly focus on MMBN again.

As for the 4-B tiering, my problem with it is that it is the sole feat on that level, performed by Megaman.EXE, who we know for sure is superior to the average NetNavi at his weakest (Although not by a whole lot), and that his power seems to vary depending on his emotional state. All other feats I've seen thus far on MMBN1 and 2 are... very different.

Regardless, it'll be a pleasure to help.

Not sure how much help I could be, since MMBN was always one of my weaker series, but I do agree that decompositing Game Canon from Manga Canon would be a good step to take.

And yes, what Migue79 said about my stance on the 4-B scaling is true, and I still stand by it. If a more reliable source of scaling can be found for Lan, great. Until then, I believe scaling to EoS Geo makes perfect sense considering the context of the situation.

@EliminatorVenom Cool! I’ll probs get back into my BN groove soon enough anyway. So you can always PM me whenever your work is done to collab.

i don’t remember much of Megaman battle network 2, tho I’m sure Battle network 3 has the dark aura situation, which Alpha, Bass, Serenade Scale far above, and that seems to be the most feat in the series.

manga, game, and anime are different stories tho, and the scaling actually changes VASTLY when it comes to main key characters. Some God tiers are actually fodder in the other continuities (Poor Alpha).
