idk, i never met that situation before, but since fiction is weird and so many kind out there, probably there are some cases for this

Since the stuff is passive, wouldnt the plot just bring them back for them to be able to win

No, that require the plot hax capable of doing so, if it just kill, then it just kill

If 2 characters were to manipulate, like the plot, how would that turn out

Option 1: both dies
Option 2: both survives due to PLOT
Option 3: the one with better plothax feats wins

Option 3 is more likely imo.
