Over Time Social Influencing?

So lets’s say there’s this hero who tries to a redeem a villain he’s facing off against, but when he tries to offer the villain redemption, the villain just gets extremely pissed and vows to eradicate his entire bloodline or something like that. Now let’s say in an alternate timeline where not much about their personalities has changed, the hero actually manages to redeem the villain and not only have the villain make amends with everybody he harmed, but also make the villain become one of the hero’s closest allies. However, the hero notes that it was a very tedious process and it took an unspecified (but presumably long) amount of time. Would this still count as social influencing?
