In terms of durability without Haki defense? I didn't assume he would be; we've seen silhouette Imu get wrecked by everyone's attacks on God Valley, we saw holes being punched in him by Gear 5 Luffy.
Imu's biggest advantage seems to be regeneration / immortality, so he doesn't need to tank hits.

Shadow imu being that paperthin doesn't stretch to imu's physical body. We haven't seen him regenerate once.
We saw him block one of Zoro's strongest moves with his tail, weaker moves hurt Kaidou. Imu without haki defense is sick
