I think Jean meant by creating a different plane of existence there's a new timeline. Since he reality warped them to it.

It's explicitly stated, by Jean, that he created a whole new plane of existence. This can be taken either as a whole new plane of reality, or an entire separate universe - one he created, not one he moved them to. 2-C seems like a fair rating.
