Name me a cartoon and I'll give my honest, unbiased opinion about it

Movies?

Secret of NIMH? Maybe toss in Watership Down for funsies?

For shows, I suspect the intended target of this...

Obviously expected request from me is Invader Zim. So, instead I'll ask about Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

Was never a movie guy, plus I more specifically meant shows.

That being said, I haven't watched these movies.

Invader Zim - Pretty solid show. Fun characters, a sick ass artstyle, as well as cool character designs and animation. This show often gets overlooked nowadays, but I think it's a top 10 Nicktoon for sure.

Billy and Mandy - Honestly one of the funniest shows I've watched. The 3 main characters bounce off each other so well, and they create a fantastic dynamic. The show also has a great and recognizable artstyle and animation. One of the best CN shows.

yeah well they rule, so

both annointed shows, certainly

The Powerpuff Girls
A top 5 CN show of all time for me. Maybe even top 3.

Was never super interested in the main 3 girls, but the villains were top tier. Mojo Jojo, HIM, Fuzzy, The Rowdyruff Boys, Princess Morbucks, and more were fantastic villains.

Even some of the side characters like The Mayor, Professor Utonium, The Narrator, and Miss Sara Bellum were great.

The writing and comedy was great, and the action was surprisingly raw and brutal for a show about little girls fighting crime.

I love this show, and it's one of my favorite shows to watch.

Hmm here goes.
Adventure Time (and extension, Fionna and Cake), Gumball, Generator Rex and the 2011 Thundercats for CN shows
Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Phineas and Ferb for the Disney/XD shows
2021 TMNT for Nickelodeon shows

Teen Titans (2003)
Top 5, maybe top 3 CN show of all time. Just like PPG.

Fantastic characters with great character development and character arcs, great animation that pays homage to anime without feeling like it's blatantly emulating it without any originality or charm whatsoever.

And what a damn diverse casts of villains.

The Hive Five, Doctor Light, Brother Blood, that weird puppet mf, Trigon, The Brain, Madam Rouge, and one of the best cartoon villains of all time in Slade. Fantastic cast of villains.

And can we talk about how each season (except for Starfire) primarily focused on one member of the Titans? The show was structured perfectly.

And even the comedy is pretty good.

Just a great show all around. Easily one of my favorites to watch.

Ultimate Spider-Man
Some people like this show, and some people don't like this show. It gets a lot of mixed reviews. This used to be my favorite Spider-Man cartoon, but nowadays, I realized it's not as good as I remember, but the show imo is a lot of fun.

While the Peter Parker in this adaptation is not accurate to what the actual Peter is, I think he's a funny character for who he is. And I like the new, and fresh take the show has with Spidey joining S.H.I.E.L.D., which introduces people to new characters like Iron Fist, Nick Fury, Nova, White Tiger, and Power Man.

The show definitely is targeted to a younger demographic as opposed to its predecessor (Spectacular Spider-Man), so the show focuses more on its comedy, but I found the show pretty funny, even though I felt the comedy can interrupt serious moments, as well as the fact that the show tries a bit too hard at times.

Overall, I think it's a fun show, and I think a good portion of the hate is unwarranted, though I can acknowledge this show isn't for everyone.

Gravity Falls
A lot of people argue GOAT. Me personally, I don't see it, but I still think this is a great show.

Unlike shows like Amphibia and Owl House, this show lets you know it's telling an overarching story from the bat instead of having the 1st season being primarily a slice of life story about two pre-teens going on goofy adventures, and then by the 2nd season, the show becomes dark and dramatic.

Great lore, great characters, a fantastic villain in Bill Cipher, great writing, decently funny. Just a really good show all around.

Hit Monkey
Haven't watched the show.

I have a lot of memories watching the show as a kid, however, I have not watched the show since, and since there's so many episodes and seasons of this show, and iirc, the show is telling an overarching narrative, so I can't really give an opinion on the show other than I love theme song.

Obligatory TMNT 2003
Haven't watched the show mainly because I was never a TMNT guy.

Adventure Time (and extension, Fionna and Cake)
Haven't watched Fionna and Cake.

As for Adventure Time...

I think the show is good, but very overrated.

I think the earlier seasons were a lot of fun back when the show was mostly about a kid and his shapeshifting dog going on crazy adventures and saving the day.

Until the show damn near completely changed its identity halfway through its run.

Ngl I was not a fan of the lore dumping and character arcs in the show, mainly because there were not a lot of characters in the show I cared about nor liked.

Finn is okay, Jake is good, Ice King is great. All the other characters I think are either okay, don't care about/boring, or are annoying.

I think the show overall is a 7.5/10, because I really did enjoy the earlier seasons of the show, but I was not a fan of the show during its later seasons.

I have a lot of respect for the show and its influence (even though I think western cartoons need to stop copying the AT/SU formula), but I think it's overrated.

Similar to Teen Titans and PPG, a top 5, if not top 3 CN of all time for me.

I adore the family dynamic in this show. They bounce off each other so well, and the family dynamic alone creates some of the best and funniest moments in the entire show.

The characters in this show are also top tier. Gumball, Darwin, Nicole, Anais, Richard, Penny, Carrie, Rob, Mr. Robinson, Ms. Simian, and many more are such great and funny characters.

The animation is also a beautiful combination of so many animation styles and the animators somehow found a way to blend the styles in the show so damn well.

Also, this show is peak comedy. There's damn near not a single episode where I don't laugh at least once.

I do think the show can get a bit too meta at times, but the show does a mostly great job on its meta-centric episodes, and unlike TTG, it doesn't come off as spiteful when Gumball takes jabs at its fans.

A great show, and one of my favorites to watch.

Generator Rex
I need to watch the show again, as my opinions on the show are based when I watched it as a kid.

2011 Thundercats
Haven't watched the show.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Haven't watched the show.

Phineas and Ferb
This show is on my Mount Rushmore of Disney cartoons.

I can see why people wouldn't like this show because of how formulaic/repetitive it is, but the show does a surprisingly good job at keeping each episode fresh.

People find Ferb and especially Phineas fairly boring, but I honestly had a fun time when they were the focus of a scene, especially Ferb. I think it was fun watching them build the most insane invention ever.

P&F also has one of the best B plots in any show with the Perry the Platypus and Dr. Doofenschmirtz dynamic. Every scene with these two is gold and peak television.

The music in this show is also peak. It rivals Spongebob's music dare I say.

Great show, and one of my favorites to watch.

2021 TMNT

One interesting thing to see is that, according to Dan Povenmire, P&F Creator, Perry's plot was actually the main theme of the show and Phineas and Ferb creating inventions was it's background:

Johnny Test
I know this show like the back of my hand, so I'll do something a little different here and give a little summary of what I think about every season of Johnny Test.

Season 1 - A great introduction to the show, however I think this season is overrated in the sense that most people glaze it and acts like it's the only good season because "Flash animation bad." That being said, good hand-drawn animation, great characters, cool and creative episodes, and great jokes. Just a great season.

Season 2 - This season had troubles finding its footing due to budget cuts which caused the show to change from hand-drawn to traditional flash animation. I say that because season 2 of Johnny Test struggled to find its identity. Watch an early season 2 episode and then watch a later season 2 and you'll see the difference in tone and pacing. The early episodes seemingly tried to replicate the tone and pacing season 1 had, while the later seasons tried to forge an identity for itself that's separate from the first season. That being said, this is still a fun season. The flash animation is pretty good, in fact, I prefer the look seasons 2 and 3 had as opposed to the first season. The characters are still fun, the season was well-written and plots for the episodes were fun and creative, and the show was still funny. Good season.

Season 3 - This is the best season of the show imo. Seasons 2 and 3 were animated by Collideascope Digital Productions, and imo they perfected the traditional flash animation look in this season. I love the scenes when the characters go off-model. I do think season 1 is consistently better, but season 3 had the higher peaks. The introduction of Dark Vegan was great, and tbh, before he became a running joke in the later seasons, Dark Vegan was an underrated villain. The concept of a villain stealing all of the natural resources from other planets, leaving them to die is surprisingly dark for a show as unserious as Johnny Test. This season is basically all the things I loved about the first two seasons combined into one. Despite this being the season where the whip cracks are first introduced, it's not overbearing and annoying like it would be in the later seasons. Fantastic season. If the show ended here, it would've been perfect.

Season 4 - A lot of people would argue that this is where the show became bad, but I disagree. I think season 4 is overhated/underrated. Collideascope Digital Productions shut down, so they couldn't animate this season, so Atomic Cartoons, Inc. went and animated this season, and let me say, the flash animation here is a pretty big downgrade from seasons 2 and 3, but it wasn't terrible. The season length was doubled from 13 episodes to 26 episodes compared to the previous three seasons, and it stayed that way for the rest of the shows run, which imo, heavily affected the quality of the remaining three seasons. The episodes in this season overall are hit or miss. Some episodes are great, some are good, some are okay, and some suck. But overall I still think this is a decent season, because while the lows are pretty lows (some of the worst episodes from the show are in this season), the highs are pretty high and the peaks rival some of the best episodes the previous three seasons had. Plus, this season had the "I blew up Malaysia" joke, so it automatically gets a pass. To add on, the show also could've ended here if you were to watch the season 4 finale. A flawed, but decent season. The last enjoyable season of Johnny Test.

Season 5 - THIS is when the show became bad. The flash animation got even worse, the characters were becoming flanderized, causing them to be more annoying and unlikeable, the episodes were losing originality and were becoming repetitive, the jokes weren't as funny as before, and the whips were becoming overbearing, but not quite the epitome of whip crack mania. You can tell the writers weren't ready to make new episodes once it was announced that Johnny Test was getting renewed for a fourth season. Season 4 had some gems, but this season they ran out of ideas faaaaassst and they were episodes that blatantly copied episodes from earlier seasons. Like 'Johnny Susan, Susan Johnny' just feels like an alternative version of 'Papa Johnny' from season 4, and 'Johnny Irresistible' is quite literally the same episode concept from 'Johnny Smells Good'. I can rant about the flaws of this season, however, there are some good episodes sprinkled throughout, but the peaks of season 5 don't rival the peaks of the previous 4 seasons. I don't think this season is complete garbage, but it's very mid.

Season 6 - By far the worst season of the show. Basically take what I said about season 5 and multiply it by ten. Bad flash animation, flanderized and annoying characters, complete lack of originality, repetitive and formulaic, for the most part unfunny, and the sound effects were crazy this season. While they were SOME good episodes this season, they are few and far between. A good season 6 episode feels like a fluke. Just a bad season all around.

Removing all bias and being as objective as possible, Johnny Test is like a 8, maybe 8.5 out of 10, but I'll settle on an 8. The first 4 seasons are unironically one of my favorite shows to watch. Imo, the show in its first 4 seasons was peak comedy with memorable characters and episodes I still go back and watch. While I do think that season 4 is overhated, it definitely encouraged the bad that was seasons 5 and 6, and I can see why the season gets lumped in with the other two, and it sucks to see that seasons 4-6 of Johnny Test is what the show is most remembered for, because before that it was a great cartoon.

Have you watched Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart?
No, and tbh I'm not too interested in the show.

Here's some animated web series I have in mind that haven't been mentioned yet.

the og Ben 10
One of the coolest shows of all time.

Imagine having a watch that can make you turn into any alien you want and save the world? What young boy didn't want to be Ben Tennyson when they were watching this show?

Ben and Gwen honestly had great chemistry, and the "Family that will always bicker with each other and get on their nerves but have genuine love for each other" trope was done perfectly with these two.

So many cool and diverse aliens from this show, which resulted in some sick ass action scenes, great animation, good comedy, etc.

Plus, if this show wasn't cool already, the theme song multiplies this show's cool factor by 100. Definitely in the conversation for top 5/top 3 CN shows along with PPG, Teen Titans, Billy and Mandy, Gumball, and Johnny Test (yes I said it).

One of my favorite cartoons to watch.

Well, I'd insist you go watch them whenever you have the time. If it makes it any easier, I'll give you some major series that haven't been mentioned yet.
  • Danny Phantom
  • Dexter's Laboratory
  • The Fairly OddParents!
  • Jimmy Neutron
  • Johnny Bravo
  • Regular Show
  • SpongeBob SquarePants

Danny Phantom
Similar to Ben 10 in the sense that Danny Phantom is one of the coolest cartoons of all time.

The main character (Danny Fenton) is one of my favorite protagonists in any cartoon, along with a few others I didn't mention before in other shows I reviewed.

Though admittedly, the supporting casts aren't up to snuff. Tucker is okay, but Sam I honestly found annoying. The mom and dad were cool, Paulina was fine too (in the literal and figurative sense), however the show peaked whenever Danny was interacting with the villains.

Ember McClain, Dark Danny, Vlad Plasmius, and a lot more were the peak of the show.

I think the comedy was fine, however the Butch Hartman style of comedy didn't really fit the style/aesthetic of Danny Phantom.

The first two seasons are fantastic, however season 3 was a fairly big step down imo, however, I didn't think it was awful.

I honestly remember this show being a lot better, but I still think this a top 10, if not top 5 Nicktoon. Great show.

Dexter's Laboratory
My least favorite "good" show probably.

Basically every aspect of this show is a 7/10.

Characters - 7/10

Animation - 7/10

Writing - 7/10

Comedy - 7/10

The show is FAR from being awful, but it does nothing to stand out from great or even the good shows to an extent. Aside from Dexter, Dee Dee, Dexter's mom (for reasons completely unrelated to the show), and few memorable jokes, this show doesn't stand out to me, and it's honestly one of the weaker shows of CN's "classic" era. I have a lot of respect for the show though, because it basically started it all for Cartoon Network.

The Fairly OddParents!
What happened man?

Seasons 1-6 of FOP is unironically one of my favorite shows of all time. Great animation, fantastic characters, fantastic episodes, and some of the most memorable specials in animation.

Channel Chasers
Fairy Idol
School's Out! The Musical
Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour Trilogy
Abracatastrophe
Shiny Teeth
Icky Vicky
Wishology

I can keep going man. Peak FOP is generational, and I get upset seeing people doing revisionist history on the show.

However, it's impossible to ignore the fall off this show had. The fall off of FOP is just as generational as the peaks of FOP.

It really started with the introduction of FOOP in season 7. The flanderization of the characters are also started around here as well.

Cosmo went from a cunning idiot to just an idiot who needs Wanda to do the simplest of tasks, Wanda went from a down-to-earth character to make sure Cosmo and Timmy were in check, to just become a "She's a woman and she's nagging!" stereotype, Timmy's parents were the "Idiotic parents who don't give two ***** about their kid" stereotype done well, and they were even times when they showed hints of being an okay parent. Now in the later seasons, they're just awful parents with no punchline whatsoever.

The introduction of Sparky and Chloe also tanked whatever little dignity this show had left. The less said about seasons 9 and 10, the better.

Overall, I still consider FOP to be one of my favorite shows of all time because of how peak season 1-6 were, it's sad how bad of a downfall the show had though. Still a top 5, if not top 3 Nicktoon.

Jimmy Neutron
Spongebob, FOP, Jimmy Neutron, and Danny Phantom are often considered the "Big 4" of Nick (mainly because of the video games).

However, out of all of the shows here, aside from Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron has aged the best imo.

The animation, while not perfect, is still decent for a show made in 2002, and it still holds up well.

Jimmy is a great character, and him and Cindy have a fantastic dynamic.

Sheen is one of the funniest side characters of all time.

Carl Wheezer is one of the simps of all time, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Libby is also criminally underrated.

Jimmy's dad is also fantastic.

Also, the writing and comedy in this show peak. I genuinely think Jimmy Neutron can rival peak Spongebob in terms of comedy.

This might be my favorite Nicktoon of all time. It's just a fantastic show all around.

Johnny Bravo
The first 2 or so seasons of Johnny Bravo are peak comedy, and that's mainly because of Johnny and the crazy predicaments he'd put himself in.

Can I just say that Jeff Bennett is the perfect Johnny? The delivery on some of the lines alone make me laugh, and he brings the Johnny Bravo character to life.

I can see why a lot of people say this show didn't age well because Johnny is always hitting on women, and it can be seen as misogynistic, but people often forget that the women in the show often whoop Bravo's ass whenever he even tries to make a move on him, so he gets what he deserves every time.

This is honestly one of my comfort shows. Whenever I need a good laugh, I put on Johnny Bravo. Yeah, the later seasons don't hold up well, but I adore the first 2 seasons. Definitely deserves to be up there with one of the greats of CN.

Regular Show
Definitely should be in the convo for one of the greatest CN shows of all time, along with the other CN shows I praised before.

This show is funny and relatable. A lot of the character dynamics are often similar to relationships we have IRL. We always have friends that we poke fun of, or friends that get on our nerves, but that's how we show love to each other, and there are few shows that show this as Regular Show.

Mordecai gets on my nerves, but in general he's a great character, Rigby has one of the best character developments in any cartoon I've seen, Benson is the perfect foil for Mordecai and Rigby's antics, and seeing him pissed off can create some of the funniest moments in the show.

Muscle Man is one of the most quotable cartoon characters of all time.

Only real criticism I have is that Pops being this universal entity/being is kind of bs, and it felt like the writers were just throwing stuff out there and hoping it sticks, but I still like the finale.

Easily one of my favorite shows to watch.

SpongeBob SquarePants
Damn. Where to start with this show?

This show is like a rollercoaster. There's high points, low points, and there's stuff in the middle.

Seasons 1-4 of Spongebob is peak comedy and of my favorite cartoons of all time. The show took a dip in quality during season 5, but it was still a fun show.

Season 6-8 was the bad era of Spongebob, and since then the show has been pretty hit or miss for the most part.

Spongebob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Plankton, Sandy, and so many others created some of the most iconic and funniest moments in animation. We even got characters we don't know the name of cooking (i.e. "MY LEG!" and "You just blown in from stupid town?").

Despite the bipolar relationship I have with this show, I still love this show and my respect for it knows no bounds. One of my favorites for sure.

Total Drama
Ngl I need to rewatch this show, but I remember it being great.

Billy and Mandy - Honestly one of the funniest shows I've watched. The 3 main characters bounce off each other so well, and they create a fantastic dynamic. The show also has a great and recognizable artstyle and animation. One of the best CN shows.
