My Hero Academia General Discussion Thread #18

LITERALLY

What's funny is a few days ago I'd see the Chainsaw Man movie and I was thinking of posting here "What version of Bakugo would be a good match-up against Reze?"
Sad because even with the movie her biggest feat would only be maybe like 8-B since its done with like 10~15 bombs with every other one being like generally building to large building level

Somehow worse for her than Bakugo vs Rex Splode who at least has a wincon

I haven't watched the movie, but, this is very good news for CSM scaling because it stays in line with the verse's AP scaling.

Reze will have her big AP moment in due time with Part 2 and all, trust that the match up will be a thing.

Well the episode is here and well. It was okay.

The animation was good but not a priority episode. A LOT of flashbacks like a good 35-40% of this episode is flashback. As in actual flashback to the past seasons.

The hits just don't have the omph to it. Like even the massive Delaware Detroit smash feels small compared to say All Might blowing away buildings in the exam arc.

The Carnage Deku transformation was a highlight and the direction was really good but seeing this in anime format really shows the flaws of the source material.

The fight has barely even started and we already on the final setpiece and ticking clock to wrap up the fight.

Also the base of MT Fuji is such a underwhelming set piece for the fight. It would be one thing if it was actually on the mountain but just the forest below it is meh.

The manga chapters were weeks apart and even then the fight felt short. So now to see the anime run to near the end in one epsiode most of which being flashback makes it even smaller.

Also the story doesn't really justify why Deku is stubborn over risking everyone's lives. He just becomes so at the end of season 6. You know the one where villains committed the most atrocious terrorist attack in Japan's history.

The dialogue between Deku and Shigaraki can be boiled down to

Deku - No you are still human.

Shigaraki - Nuh Uh.

Deku's delulu isn't tested by the villain either like say Daredevil is tested by Fisk or Pointdexter like Fisk shoving the fact that he can walk of prison anytime because of his connections and corruption or how Pointdexter kills people at random to push Matt's morals

Deku never loses anyone significant to him and the only time he almost did he snapped and tried to Kill Shigaraki twice making him kind of a hypocrite.

It's just the most frustrating part about the story.

Sorry for the rant

On the scaling side of things. Shigaraki is completely dominating.

Even dodging point blank blackwhip. Nothing new though.

Expect the smoke of the mj Fuji isn't the dust cloud. It's Deku's quirk

From an animation standpoint, this episode was definitely weaker than the last two (expected, wasn’t an action focused episode. But man, this episode had me on the verge of tears with Deku accepting he has to lose OFA. The music definitely helped as well. Also the transformation was SICK man but the emotion is what stood out the most this episode.

Another thing that this episode helped me realize is that Shigaraki was using multiple Quirks pretty efficiently in this fight

Steals with All For One, uses Danger Sense to dodge attacks, blasts Deku away with Air Cannon+Impure Beam, follows up with Decay, then uses his own Flying Boost to recover from Deku’s air blast, uses Regen to recover from the destroyed hand, then uses Search and Rivet Stab to hunt Deku down

In the manga, it wasn’t easy to see, but Shigaraki wasn’t just using the same stuff, he was reacting and adapting to Deku the same way Deku was reacting to him

Yeah Shigaraki feels like Micheal Myers walking Deku down.

He definitely feels like he has much better upper hand here

Up to this point, Deku has been trying to stall Shigaraki in hopes of figuring out a way to win in a different way, but because of that, he lost his best amps

I’d be curious to see how this fight would have gone had Deku been bloodlusted from the second Deku and Shigaraki left the Coffin
A au where Toga became a hero student in 1-A instead of a villain

Where Deku arrived in the coffin alongside everyone else like planed

It's a good showcase of how Shigaraki is just as much of a crackhead as Deku is when it comes to combat adaptation except Shiggy has an advantage in that his body adapts alongside his mind.

What's crazy to me is how much it's portrayed that Deku is a whole lot physically superior to Shigaraki pretty consistently in all stats. Like anyone who ever thinks Deku would not fold All Might immediately are crazy when this Prime All Might level villain is having his body consistently torn to shreds by Deku's attacks
