Madness Combat Discussion Thread: Redeemer

Quick question didn't someone make a Class K LS calc? whatever happened to that? We've had a lot of calcs that just went unused/invalid but we didn't say anything so i'm tryna track everything down.

Yeah that already scales to their base speed, wouldn't apply to their higher speed with the TAC-BAR unless i'm missing something.
I think I have a match for Hank, Deimos, and Sanford... at the same time...

Do you think pre MC 9 or post MC 9 version of the squad would work better?

When it comes to Strife, go as hard as you can. This guy has blitz dodges that can leave shadow clones and infinite ammo guns, so whichever you think would be more difficult.

Auditor requires Death, cause Death has magic he can surprise with.

I don't know which is worse;

Hank having terrible coordination and making Sanford and Deimos carry the teamwork aspect (ft. "I'm looking for an excuse to kill my teammates")

Or

Hank being the world's dumbest bullet sponge (ft. 5D smurf hax that incapacitates himself upon use)

Bandit is very consistent with Tier 8 stuff and it's especially notable that he performed his feats casually without receiving any damage

I think you should try calcing Dissonance destroying enemies on a atomic level, since it is accepted on the Dissonance page that it destroys things on that level
I’ll do that when I go into making weapon profiles. Definitely something I’ll look into.

A bit of info about Retainers' regeneration

He speaks in such a vague manner and even outright calls Retainer's powers "random" that it really doesn't tell much to us
By calling them "random" he just means he feels he needs to make their aesthetic more definite & integrated since psykers aren't yet an archetype fleshed out much in Madness Combat. I think the Retainers are cool from even their brief screentime thus far, though, and as far as the regen goes his quote simply and tastefully affirms what we see in 9.5 itself: that Retainers heal extremely quickly from even brain injury but can't regenerate so much as to survive being sliced, diced, and cleaved apart, which Tricky does after about a full 20 seconds of constant chainsawing.

I think he means that with what screen time they got, Retainers and their power just feel like it's randomly doing shit

Teleportation? sure why not. Time manipulation? why not?!? summoning rocky spikes? Just throw it at the wall!

I think we're going to see the retainers again so he can better define their abilities and power.

Yeah, lotta different things going on there. I think their aesthetic works nicely already and Krinkels was being a bit modest calling it "random," though; Retainers are clearly a take on the psyker archetype and feel like they belong even if their roles aren't fleshed out yet. The creeping threat of their spikes and telekinetic lifts is complemented so viscerally by when they teleport and actually launch their attacks with instant ferocity, it's great. Krinkels is really good at selling the world by sheer physicality like that; it's crazy how many disparate elements are present in Madness Combat yet cohere thanks to good art direction and audiovisual design. That's been very accommodating to how fanworks can be comedic or macabre in equal effectiveness with a huge range of styles under the same umbrella, too.

Only complaint is that their masks and Doc's mask resemble each other so much that I was initially confusing and conflating them unnecessarily, although there may be a story connection between Doc and the Retainers to uncover someday.

The point that Krinkels doesn't explain there anything what we could not have collected from the animations

What I like is how layered MC universe is: you have magic, some supernatural powers that might be not neccessarily related to magic, futuristic things, modern elements, ancient elements, vampires, different colours and aesthetics/cultures, comedic elements, serious elements, horror elements and etc.

Remaking deimos' profile is taking me forever so i'm just going ahead and getting the high 8-C stuff out of the way since it's been an accepted calc for a bit now.

I figured out that apprently what Slaughter Time dudes and their guns shoot isn't just technologies.... It is magic!

Poltergeists likely shoot dissonant reality, since their projectiles vaporize targets with the same effects as dissonat bolts and they strongly resemble Ghost Phobos' skull projectiles (who uses dissonant energy), which I suppose makes sense, considering how souls usually get stored in The Other Place which is filled with dissonance

i would not be surprised, although i think the skulls aren't meant to be specifically dissonance. could be wrong though.

And speaking of dissonant, I think it potentially has fire/heat manipulation, as it is shown to be firey on several ocassions (i.e. barrels with dissonant energy get set on fire when you hit them, or when characters fall into pools with dissonant they start to burn, plus the fact that Nexus Core had a cooler room specifically for dissonant energy also points towards it)

Replaying the game, I have found some interesting things. For example Yellow Tower Guard very casually destroyed a solid chunk of the wall, and while he did so armored, it is still pretty notable, especially since the characters can damage his armor (save for the helmet)

link? i kinda doubt it'd be as high as the mag bandit calc but could look into it.
