It's been awhile since i read the books so i might be misremembering, but don't denizens need assistance, like medical treatment, to recover from decapitation? though form what i recall they wouln't die from decapitation (or much else for that matter) for quite a long time. Really, isn't the shapeshifting magic and not all denizens know how to use magic (despite them all being capable).

Just reopening this to point out that I've already gone through all seven books and am currently revising it. I've already revised the main characters and several of the Trustees, irl work just forced me to stop before I could get through the rest.
