Jujutsu Kaisen Discussion Page #1

How is this the most popular and best selling manga out right now yet lacks a team of people who can properly translate this shit lmao
Difference in markets really. While Manga is popular and growing more so in the west as is Anime, most of both are pirated. It started that way due to availability but its persisted till now. Especially with how pirating has largely improved in quality alongside the rise of digital media. And Jump and all other publishers are aware of this but since their main market is Japan they don't particularly care to throw a lot of weight behind addressing it through investment. And the importing of manga and anime from an american based company is more based in cheapest in most expensive out so ensuring the highest quality isn't the highest priority. There isn't much competition for something like Viz or Crunchyroll especially since pirating doesn't actually compete in any conventional way to give it the weight to push for greater quality from the licensing companies.

Tldr. Capitalism isn't encouraging the best product in this instance, just the most cost-effective. And when you got a monopoly on translation and pirating is your biggest competitor, subpar translation works just fine.

But JJK is achieving these feats based on verified sales metrics.

Yeah, but like just look at this community, most of us don't read or support the official release in any capacity. And that's a broad truth of the community that consumes manga and anime. Like of all those copies of JJK sold, how many of them do you think come from Viz?

Oh ok I see what you're saying, but still...we could apply that argument to other manga in the west and they have better translations. If JJK is a money cow it would make sense for the parties invovled to make sure some sort of translating body exists to make sure it's accurate.

It makes sense from a quality standpoint. But quality isn't the most important factor. In fact, it being such a money cow right now only incentivizes that it's available for official release, not the official release is the best possible because it can coast off of the popularity of the brand in of itself, and as long as its not utterly unreadeable it doesn't matter. And as much as we hate the current translations, they still largely work and that's all that needs to matter.
Maybe they'd be supported if they had actually good translations lmao
The truth of the matter is, as long as there is a free and easily accessible alternative the official release being quality doesn't matter near enough to incentivize it. Especially when people are happy to do the translations for free

Plus, who tf actually pays full price for a manga the day it comes out? Hell, I'd argue who pays for a manga if it weren't for the artwork.

Okay. **** it. Is John Werry real? Like a real translator? I have seen a few of their panels here-and there, but I am half-convinced that half of the JJK fandom is just gaslighting the other half into thinking John's translations are real for the lolz. Because a person can't be that bad. Like... If they are real, how the hell did they not get fired yet for their shitty translations.

Well, I don't, because I do not have money to spare. Although I wish I had all of Bleach, but of course manga prices are ridiculous.

Depending on where you're living they can come out pretty cheap. I got my Volume 0 of JJk for like 5 or 6 bucks at Half Price books. It was used but in pretty good condition

Cause they're not bad enough.

True, but it also depends on how much I like a manga. As much as I like OP, I could NEVER own it physically. DBZ, maybe. Demon Slayer, hell no, I stopped the show and there ain't no way I'm buying that garbage. Berserk and Bleach might be the only two exceptions aside from LNs.

Mangas are expensive as **** here at least. I like to have a few pieces but collecting is a bit too much.

I also won't pay to read mangas or watch animes. Sorry. I don't think any of them are worth my money with rare few exceptions like Dragon Ball Super during the ToP and maaaaaybe something related to Naruto nowadays.

I was born in a country where pirating stuff was seen as normal and encouraged by everyone. I don't pay to watch TV Shows, Sports games, video games, to read mangas/comics and watch cartoons/animes.

And Jujutsu Kaisen isn't a work of fiction that I consider one of my favorites to spent money with it. It doesn't mean I don't actually pay for the stuff I like. I liked Dune 2 (I STILL haven't watched the first one) and bought the first trilogy. If I like a game I pirated then I buy it later on a sale.

I respect your post overall, but this is a wild standard to hold for quality my friend <3
It's not quality, it's what I'm enjoying. I'd gladly have a Tokyo Ghoul or Vagabond collection but I don't like them enough to spend money, despite being one of the best mangas I've read.

Naruto was my childhood anime and despite not reading/watching Boruto or just not ******* with Naruto anymore currently, it still has a special place in my heart for all my childhood watching it.

For me, a big issue is SPACE!

Even if I could afford to buy every manga volume or anime that I'm interested enough to buy, I do not have the room in my current living arrangement, especially since I try to keep up w/dozens of different works. It's what I like about Viz, Manganelo, ComicK etc. Just super convenient!
