TIL a good chunk of Mid-Tiers scale to this calc, and now I'm really annoyed.

To anyone who saw this calc and didn't think anything was wrong, I have a question for you: If one floor is 4.3 meters tall, why is a 14-floor tall hole (60.2 meters) 96.16 meters across?

I'll tell you why, because the calc only measured the wall of a floor and excluded the space covered by the balconies, specifically with the floor covered by the thickest balcony, thus making the height of one floor smaller, causing the hole to be larger than it should in comparison. AKA, a classic case of Shrinking the Reference.

As a result, every length is 1.5x what it should be, meaning the volume destroyed is over triple what it should be. Also, the second part's measuring is even worse! The height of a window is referenced for the height of a floor, which is just wrong. (Unless you're in one of those buildings where the walls are basically just windows) Granted, it barely adds to the total result, but still!

Because of this, I made my own calc: 35.27 36.31 Tons of TNT, or City Block level- I dunno how this affects scaling, nor do I care, but the original has gotta go.

Hi. That actually depends on the type of building it is. According to this, occupied floors are 3.1 meters tall on a residential building and 3.9 meters tall on an office building: https://www.researchgate.net/figure...to-CTBUH-a-Left-Residential-60_fig3_317510960

Although averaging the building heights and including the blue spaces, the average storey height came out to be 3.4358333333333 meters for the residential building and 4.55 meters for the office building.

Source even says 3.9 not 4.3m unless I’m missing something
I'm just using what the Calc says-
A storey height is 4.3 m.
  • Storey: 11 px | 4.3 m
  • Hole Height: 284 px | 111.018182 m
  • Hole Length a: 246 px | 96.1636364 m
  • Hole Width b: 70.30 px | 27.4809091 m
  • Distance Yuji's Body Travelled: 1899.87+ px | 742.676455+ m

Yeah... Don't do that. I Ctrl+F'd the linked page and found no sign of that 4.3 figure.
That's not a one off case though- 4.3 meters / 14 feet per floor height's a pretty common figure I've seen in multiple calcs. Pretty sure it comes from here (14 feet is ~4.26 meters) or sources like it.

I mean, I can change the recalc to using 3.9 meters per floor if you insist.

The Calc's been (tentatively) accepted- thank you @Flashlight237. I'll just the drop the news in the Discussion Thread and they can decide what to do with the 8-A Calc being replaced, whenever they get around to that CRT.

Unless anyone has anything else to say, I guess this thread can be closed now.

Normally I recommend posting both versions here in the Calc Group Discussion thread to see which one is more accurate or something. I think this thread can continue on with this purpose in mind.

Edit: I'm just gonna delete what I just wrote

Also I Agree to ditch the current calc cause its pretty bad yours looks good

No I don't believe so. Everyone who would scale, is currently L7C.
then yeah I mean we already have myself and two other CGMs in agreement with the updated calc and my approval as a mod so yeah you should be good to go ahead and make the replacement and update whatever is necessary
