Is it permissible to use mass-energy conversion in this feat?

In the manga, Gowther claims that his self-destruction, composed of the Sun's magic, the four elements of destruction and amplified by Merlin's Infinity, could annihilate everything around him within a radius of 16 km.

And in an interview, we are told that if self-destruction were activated, it would annihilate all matter within a radius of 16km

I've done some research and, by annihilating matter, you would be transforming it into energy. I wonder if it would be permissible to use the formula E=m*c² or another destruction value, such as subatomization or vaporization, something like that.

where I read about it: https://www.britannica.com/science/annihilation , Wikipedia mentions something about subatomic particles colliding with antiparticles. Subatomic destruction could be used if the formula e=m*c² is out of the question?

Unless there is a direct mention of it affecting atoms or particles or reducing everything to energy (rather than nothing because it can be interpreted in different ways, such as an EE bomb) or Anti-matter explosion, annihilation mean many things, we always go down the Vaporization route as a safe ball
