Is it allowed/possible to stack resistances?

What I mean by that, is that when 2 characters fight each other, could they just add new layers to they powers/resistances untill they stop figthting?

For example I made up this dialogue:
-Character A: "What? How did you not turned into blob?"
-Character B: "This shit can't affect me, idiot"
-Character A: "Now it can [proceeds to amp his ability by adding new layer and tries to affect Character B]"
-Character B: "[Sees that he starts melting and proceeds to amp his resistance by adding new layer]"

So basically, is it possible to stack layers this or in very similar ways?

Should be if their like constantly adapting to each other.
Conceptual manipulation doesnt work -> it works -> grows to stronger conceptual manipulation,->hit with it it works ->adapts to it. It no longer -> repeat.
