I know there’s a formula for vaporization but I’m told that it’s super hard or impossible to find the latent heat value for melting steel or metal. Is this true? And if so what can be done about it?

Not much TBF, just stick with specific heat capacity until you happen to find latent heat to combine with it by a sheer stroke of luck.
