Goku vs Garou

All he said is that Bang never taught him and that he needs to improve. Nothing concretely states or shows that he'd eventually learn a counter to it. The extent of him fighting Rover was him blocking energy blasts and then punching Rover down. Not fighting against a style like Watchdog's.

However even assuming he can counter crazy fist, there is still the considerable AP advantage and large AOE energy blasts he needs to deal with, which are much more important than an animal fighting style.

To help settle for the Goku isn't as fast of a learner or faster than Garou mini debate here, Goku shows not only the power to suddenly gain strength in short amounts of training, and even if we factor out that Saiyan Zenkai and HTC events, but he gains skill as fast, if not faster. Goku coming back from Namek's destruction vs the time he fought Frieza shown he learned more skills (i.e. Instant Transmission) than greatly increasing in power, because if he did gain more power instead (or focused on gaining strength) he'd have a huge ass boost, that probably would have solo'd the Androids if his power boost was equal of his skill increase. Ignoring the subplot about heart viruses, here too.

He is indeed a proper match for Garou in this regard, and the only reason why he might be superior, is Goku, as shown in later sagas and arcs, picks up on changes in stance, enemy body language/movement, and how they talk to him over the course of a fight. He has a better understanding of martial arts than most realize. Not to mention the vast VARIETY of training he has had over Garou. To assume Bang and Garou have more variety and skill than any combination of people that have trained Goku or Goku himself is pretty asinine due to the fact both verses explicitly shown each art or the limits of how much they have to offer, and DB has shown there is a massive amount of which Goku is able to grasp.

Gonna wait a day more before closing the thread. Everyone seems to be settled in here, but it's fair to wait. Also please stop bumping this thread. It's popular enough.

I would also like to add that Darkshine described fighting Garou like "being cornered by dozens of martial artists at once" This was still when they were around the same level. Moreover, Darkshine's hand to hand combat is one of the best among the heroes and said to be on par with Bang's. In addition, despite having already fought and lost Bang, Darkshine has never had such doubt in his own abilities like when he was fighting Garou. In summary, despite Darkshine and Garou being at around the same level and Darkshine already being reputable hand to hand combatant, Garou's mastery in hand to hand combat was at such a level that fighting Garou, even as a skilled combatant, would be like fighting multiple people at once.
