Surtalogi at base was already above archon level. When he obtained the abyss he was already at shades level consider he could remove the curse of immortality and was able to stop the cataclysm. He grew thousands times stronger than when he obtained the abyss and in his prime he views all things in creation as ants.

And? The curse of Immortality is specifically stated to be inflicted from a higher level of existence and this was just when Surtalogi obtained just the abyss with his own power he can break it.
