Freezing Egypt

1. The whole thing.

2. To the point where ice covers everything and you can't see anything else.

Like there's just one block over the entire country or there's just a layer of ice over everything?

Does this include all the caves inside the mountains of Egypt too?

Almost. You see the area freezing at a quick pace. It would have been done in about 10 seconds at most.

That I am unsure of. All I can say was Christmas past a while ago.

Egypt has an area of 1.01e+16 cm^2

1 foot = 30.48 cm

1.01e+16 x 30.48 = 3.07848e+17 cm^3 = 3.07848e+11 m^3

  • Density of frozen nitrogen: 1026.5 kg/m^3
  • Mass of ice trap: 3.07848e+11 x 1026.5 = 3.1600597e+14 kg
  • Specific heat of nitrogen: 1040 j/kg
  • Freezing point of nitrogen: -210 C
  • Melting point of nitrogen: -196 C
  • Temperature (outdoors): ~40 C
Now for the latent heat required to freeze that much nitrogen. The latent heat of nitrogen is listed here.

Q1 = MC(Delta T) = (3.1600597e+14 kg)(1040j/kg)(-196-(-210)) = 4.6010469e+18 joules

Fusion energy nitrogen = (Mass of nitrogen)(Latent heat fusion) = (3.1600597e+14 kg)(25702j/kg) = 8.1219854e+18 joules

Q2 = (3.1600597e+14 kg)(1040j/kg)(40-(-196)) = 7.7560505e+19 joules

Vaporization energy nitrogen = (3.1600597e+14 kg)(199190 j/kg) = 6.2945229e+19 joules

Q1 + Fusion + Q2 + Vaporization = 4.6010469e+18 + 8.1219854e+18 + 7.7560505e+19 + 6.2945229e+19 = 1.5322877e+20 Joules, 36 Gigatons of TNT
