Fingolfin vs Feanor

Fingolfin matched Morgoth. Feanor matched Gotmogh. Morgoth is so ridiculously above Gotmogh that this match is almost a stomp.

Fingolfin takes this

The Silmarillion answers this versus in Chapter 5:

Finw├½ was King of the Noldor. The sons of Finw├½ were F├½anor, and Fingolfin, and Finarfin; but the mother of F├½anor was M├¡riel Serind├½, whereas the mother of Fingolfin and Finarfin was Indis of the Vanyar. F├½anor was the mightiest in skil of word and of hand, more learned than his brothers; his spirit burned as a flame. Fingolfin was the strongest, the most steadfast, and the most valiant. Finarfin was the fairest, and the most wise of heart; and afterwards he was a friend of the sons of Olw├½, lord of the Teleri, and had to wife Eärwen, the swan-maiden of Alqualond├½, Olw├½'s daughter.

Feanor's standard gear doesn't include the Silmarils though. They were closed in his house for most of the time

Fingolfin was said to be the strongest of the sons of Finwë though, as stated in the passage that Dariel quoted

Well those statements cancel out then. Going by feats it's also hard to say: Feanor slew many balrogs whereas fingolfin was killed by morgoth, but wounded him.

Well really where they tell the arrival of the Noldor to Beleriand and about the first battle they had there, it is not mentioned that Feanor killed as many balrogs, it is mentioned that he and a group was surrounded by them and continuous unbroken Feanor fighting for a long time Until Gothmog got him down but was saved by his children and the book mentions that the Balrogs left them. Naturally we can think that Feanor if he killed several of them, as one of the most powerful Noldor that sustains alone but still the book does not go into much detail in that.

Assuming this quote is true, which I can't verify, we can assume that Feanor is stronger in magic and in force of personality while Fingolfin is stronger in body and in battle. I'd say, with lack of prep, Fingolfin takes it. We know that elves are capable of enchantments(when I say enchantment, I refer to premade spells that have continuous effects that generally require a decent amount of time and preperation to complete), but we don't know what kind of reactive magic they are capable of. The only case I can think of in which an elf used magic in combat without any sort of preperation was Finrod's fight with Sauron, which is quite undetailed. Finrod did snap his chains and kill the wolves sent to kill himself and Beren soon after, but the effort killed him and the feat could have been the result of magic or superhuman elven capabilities.
