Devil May Cry Anime show Discussion Thread

Btw has anyone calc'd the scene where Dante outruns Rabbit's rocket to save a bus?
He doesn't do that, he jumps, don't think that can be used like that, I at least will not calc it since I don't agree on it being used for speed

Maybe it could be used to calc the strength the legs needed to have to reach that speed for a Lifting Strength feat?

DMC has been here before. New thing gets made to appeal to someone other than the audience, existing audience don't want it, new audience and developers attack them for not wanting it, franchise ends up in a terrible state because of it. This is exactly what happened with the reboot, and it's happening again with this Netflix thing.

The reboot almost killed the franchise, and DMC5 saved it. I guess we'll see if this thing succeeds where the reboot failed and kills the franchise.

Honestly, I'd rather see DMC rest in peace, I prefer to have a good finished story than new material that ***** on what we love

That's completely valid. I replayed DMC3 as a palette cleanser after seeing this insulting show, and DMC3 still holds up and is still great, the real Dante, the real Lady, the real story. Honestly, replaying DMC3 to overwrite this awful show from my mind was a great choice.

Honestly, i rather we get more mangas and novels that are way cheaper to make them animation like this imo

At least they will still have the core of the series intact that we all love and some good story to read!
Exactly but those aren't as appealing to the "audience" and are too "niche" to sell as well, so we get long waiting periods for expensive animated projects that spend a fortune on VAs, licenced music, animated rights, etc for a product that is still serviceable/decent but could be so much better (reminds me that Invincible is sorta gulity of this too with straight up most of that show's budget going on overpriced celebrity VAs while having static pngs in supposedly important scenes).

I can already see the copium cops claiming just like DMC2 and DmC reboot, Netflix DMC will gain a cult following in the coming years, become less polarizing for some fans and even be considered >gasp< "underrated".

I don't even hate Netflix DMC (I believe it's textbook mediocre, where the great moments are legitimately enjoyable and leave you wanting more while the bad parts are straight up trash to eyerollingly cringe with the social commentary) however this ain't stylish chief. Also I'm guessing they're saving Ebony and Ivory for a potential S2 as well? Which is funny to me considering multiple "close" moments in S1 would've been rendered mute if Dante had his iconic magical demon killing guns that have unlimited ammo (no quantum BS or anti-demon tech) call it a "hunch" but it feels like they written the script and storyboarded scenes long before having any idea what Dante was capable of and instead of readjusting the story around a powerful character they instead nerf him, take away nearly all his toys, downplay the mystical/supernatural elements of DMC and have consistent inconsistent showings of his strength/prowess because he's "inexperienced" despite doing his job for three years, all to stubbornly maintain the "vision" of the script at least thats what I believe.

This is the whole adaptation vs source material debacle all over again where you need to be ignorant of the source material to truly enjoy an adaptation as it's own thing without the inherent bias of fan however you need to be familiar with the source material to understand as well as appreciate the references, Easter eggs and certain nuances that only fans will get thus causing a paradox on who this is suppose to appeal to (since you can't please everyone).

Still sticking with my 5/10 rating tbh.

Also isn't not ironic both Netflix DMC and Sonic Forces tease and advertise the return of the main rival in a possibly antagonistic role? (Vergil and Shadow) yet it turns out to be a bait and switch for a fake? Also the main protag doesn't actually get to fight their rival lol!

I wonder if I can calc that explosion Rabbit survived on Episode 6, seems impressive, although ISL would apply

I'm predicting it right now, Vergil in season 2 will literally say out loud "My family crest is a demon of death" (while Bury the Light plays in the background)

Nah I don't trust Capcom to handle a DMC 6 without the guy DMC 5 can be the nice closure
Off-topic, but I think a good path would be DMC 0 with Kamiya in charge. If Kamiya was in DMC 6, he'd change a lot of what made the characters what they are as of now, their personality and movesets would be drastically different.
However, Kamiya would have free reign to do whatever he wanted with a DMC 0. He could probably make Sparda (if he was the protagonist) closer to what Bayonetta envisions since Sparda has NEVER been playable.

Or Capcom could just do DMC 6 where Dante and Vergil go through the nine circles of hell like the comedy they're supposed to parody.

This is assuming Capcom wouldn't just do a remake, which is not ideal IMO.

Oh hell no, I don't want Kamiya back in any way, shape or form.

You're going have to pick your poison Tony because unfortunately some new project is inevitably going to come out I can feel it.
I chose he does Okami and ***** out of there.

DMC 5 is a good finale. Dante and Vergil are reunited and on better terms. Nero finally got the torch as the hero and upcoming star of the series. Vergil got his power hunger satiated and Dante finally has a family.

DMC6 would be a cash grab imo as the many characters already had their arcs completed. Dante through the whole hero story, Vergil through his fall and redemption, Nero to finally protect what he finds is important to him, Lady killing her father and accepting the trauma that comes with it, Trish accepting demons can be good to and using that gift to protect others, Lucia accepting her heritage and using it to protect her people, etc.

A DMC 0 would be pure fanservice, unlike DMC5 tho because people have come to realize Sparda's legend is fine being exactly that. There are no secrets to uncover nor mysteries left behind. (at least not ones that matter to the events in the present)

I have to admit I used to pray for a game that covers the long gaps in the story (the 9 years between DMC3 and 1 or the years between 2 and 4) but the original 07 anime does a great job in that regard as not every day a world ending threat arises. It's just life, it continues and Dante copes with it and goes on living it. (Also PoC being set between 3 and 1 and it sucks ass)

I want a new DMC game, if it is bad I can just go back to the ones I like '-'
