The should be taking into account Paper Mario's incarnation n feats for 2018. They bothered to feature Paper Mario's incarnation in the 2011 one which should carry over.

They ignored the Pure Hearts tho, items Mario could choose from seemed to not be his whole array lol.

They used it in the original Archie and that didn't carry over, they expecificaly exclude Archie Sonic and Paper Mario in the video thus any items exclusive to those games

Based on their forms that were given in the battle, Sonic used his Hyper Form and Mario used his Power Star Form, and in that case, Sonic stomps.

I do agree though that if DB would include the Pure Hearts, Mario would easily win

Again, you can't use in that variation of the battle between them other forms that aren't discussed in the battle. It would be like saying "Oh, why Goku only used SSJB against Superman when he has UI now". Because these didn't exist in the battle, and that should be also the case with Sonic and Mario. You can't use in the DB match variation archie sonic or use Paper mario / Pure Hearts.

Likewise, if Sonic would only turn Super, then you can't say "Oh, but he'll use Hyper Sonic" since he doesn't use it in the battle itself. And I don't care if it's for entertainment purposes, since the battles here are also in a way for entertainment purposes.

@Gilad if it's in the research, it counts. The animation doesn't show how things would realistically go.

Yes, I know, but they explicably stated that Paper Mario is exluded from this match, and so does Archie Sonic. If they weren't, it would just be Archie Sonic vs Paper Mario, which is an entirely different battle. Also, I didn't mentioned the animation only, since they excluded Paper Mario and Archie Sonic from the research as well

That's the official name? Lol, I always thought it was simply Blood-Scythe, Though this does fit much better with all the allusion to Japanese Folklore Blazblue uses.

Death Battle does not use the same rules as we do. DB always has characters in their base form (only characters who have variable tiers are given the benefit of the doubt). Also characters are not bloodlusted, as they still retain their character traits (for example, Sonic's arrogance), and so Sonic will not immediately transform.

EVen if they were bloodlusted, Mario would still blitz before Sonic could even register what was going on.
