Blood prison Canon?

Apparently from rumours i heard
The Blood prison from the Naruto movies was made canon in the latest Boruto episode.
And this arc was adapted from a LN, so technically can it be said to be canon atleast to the Boruto anime if not manga.
And if canon to both then can it be said that the events of that movie is canon to the main plotline?

I haven't watched Blood Prison in years, so I don't remember any details about the movie. But from what I know, the novel just acknowledges that the blood prison exists in the Naruto world. That in and of itself doesn't really make the events of the movie canon.
