Hi everyone.

I saw some some verses in this wiki where this logic is applied, so I was wondering if for Bleach fits as well.

This is a guidebook scan from Unsmaked, and explains Kidō in Bleach.

Specifically this part say as follow:
破道(はどう)
相手に直接ダメージを与える攻撃系の鬼道。
対象を破壊する目的で発動する鬼道。
「己の霊力に、火や雷などの衝撃を与えやすい」
効力を練り込むものが多い。
番号が若い破道は単純明快で破壊力もそれなりだが、
上位になるとその勢いは天と地を覆う程の絶大なものに。

Hadō (破道 – Way of Destruction)

Hadō is a type of Kidō that deals direct damage to the opponent.
It is a kind of Kidō activated with the purpose of destroying the target.
Shock effects like fire or lightning are easily imparted to your own spiritual power.
Many Hadō techniques require one to infuse or embed power into them to be effective.
Lower-numbered Hadō are simple and straightforward, and their destructive power is moderate,
but once they become higher-ranked, their force is so great it can cover both heaven and earth.

What is say is that effects like fire or lightning (火や雷などの衝撃) are easily imbued/imparted (を与えやすい) into someone spiritual power (己の霊力に).

The principles after says:
  1. You must cultivate concentration.
  2. You must not fear fire.
  3. You must not fear lightning.
  4. You must observe the wind carefully.

Later, for Byakurai it say this:
左手の人差し指と中指を揃えて相手にかざし、そこから一筋の雷を放つ。
術者の霊力が高いほど貫通率が高い。
Hold together the index and middle fingers of the left hand toward the opponent, and release a single bolt of lightning from them. The higher the caster’s spiritual power, the higher the piercing ability.

It launches a bolt of lightning imbued with spiritual powers.

For Tsuzuri Raiden, it says:
物質を通して雷のような力を流す技。鎖などの相手を拘束する物質に流して使えば、痺れ効果が期待できる。
A technique that channels lightning-like energy through a material.
If channeled through chains or materials restraining the opponent, a paralysing effect can be expected.

The lighting effects paralysis is real, lightning throughout our nervous system can cause paralysis.

Which matches what said before.

Having said this, I think it's appropriate, since Kidō imbue spiritual powers into shock effects like fire or lightning, enhancing them, that at least people that aree shown to use those ability such as Byakuya to get:

at least Massively Hypersonic+ attack speed with Byakurai (It throws a bolt of lightning to his opponent)
or Massively Hypersonic+ attack speed with Raikoho
or Massively Hypersonic+ attack speed with Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō

I don't know if I'm missing other abilities, but this should be the 3 Hadō lightning based. Also I can see people pointing out Gin's Bankai speed, but I don't think anyone really out-speed those at least early manga, meaning it would be just an attack speed ability for some characters which can manipulate lightning, rightfully.

A better translation of this btw would be:

“Many knead effects into their spiritual power that makes it easier to deliver fire attacks, lightning attacks, and so forth.”

The kanji you ripped was ripped incorrectly which made the translation come out funky.

and release a single bolt of lightning from them.
And a better translation of this would be:

“…from there fires a single line of lightning.”

In a vacuum, I’d say bolt of lightning is a far more natural translation, but given the visuals in the manga it’s more accurate to translate it more literally as a line, given it is a line.

Nevertheless, it’s still called lightning, so if that’s enough by our standards, alongside it possessing the effects of lightning (paralysis) to grant it the speed of lightning that’s fine. I know with light, being merely called light isn’t enough to grant light speed without additional qualifiers (like reflection for light specifically). But I’m not sure if we have any formal Lightning standards. Personally speaking, I’m fine giving it the charity of being Lightning speed by virtue of being Lightning itself with an example of having Lightning properties. However, once more double check that that’s allowed by our standards.

As for Tsuzuri Raiden, it’s Lightning-like, not actual Lightning, nor does it conduct through air like Lightning. Rather it’s just spiritual electricity. So I don’t know if I agree with with that being Lightning speed.

Also, you don’t provide any rigorous argument for raiho so I’m going to stay neutral there.

Take a shot every time lightning is capitalized because my phone thinks I’m talking about the FF character.

Edit: according to the Lightning page (not the FF character) you need to display a few properties of Lightning for the attack to be Lightning speed. To my knowledge, Byakurai displays one and not a few, and thus wouldn’t qualify.

So actually switch me to disagree for now.

Oh you are right, but isn't the meaning pretty much the same? Knead can mean mix, right? So, in a way that you mix effects like lightning or fire to spiritual power?

Sure the first translation wasn’t meant as a massive change, it was just for the point of more correctness.

This is correct
