Now, we need to remember that the Wave of Darkness is nothing but an agglomeration of dead human souls. This is confirmed by Skull Knight calling them the original wardens of the island but for more confirmation on this we also can look at how it reacts to the branded ones and also its appearance in the Tower of Conviction.
Even if there is a large number of them, Griffith should still scale above since these souls "cannot even compare" to his existence.
For support on this, we also have the large amount of statements on the superiority Griffith has over the rest of the verse. Griffith is called a "trascendental entity" so, again, he would have transcendence over the ethereal bodies of mere humans.
