To define Soul magic the expression of ‘magic that interfere with negative material possessed by living thing’ showed its true nature the most. If the user reached the root, it was possible to browse and interfere with the information of all existing object.

So it wasn’t exactly like a game, since raising your stats increased your level and not the other way around.

Shea’s Body Strengthening converted her mana into physical might, but it didn’t actually drain any mana to keep active. The reason creatures with extremely high mana pools naturally grew physically stronger was because they unconsciously converted the excess mana they weren’t using into physical might via Body Strengthening. But that didn’t deplete their mana, as it was simply converting it into a different form. Vol 12 p225

Soul Magic amp:

Laus’ spirit magic allowed him to remove the limiters on his soul and buff himself in the same way Limit Break would. The most he could amplify his stats by was fivefold, but going that far caused immense recoil once the magic wore off, so Laus had different tiers he went up to depending on what the situation called for. There were eight tiers in total, and his second tier only doubled his stats. ZVol 4 p54

Unlike Body Strengthening Limit Break multiply all stats including Magic/Magic resistance.

The reason evolution magic could raise people’s stats was because its true nature was the ability to manipulate the fundamental information coded into living beings. For example, it could add one to someone with a power stat of one, making it two. And of course, it could also obviously do the reverse and reduce the power stat of something. However, reducing something was infinitely more difficult than increasing it, which was why it had taken Lyutillis time to analyze and overwrite the information of all the church’s knights.
