you guys may not have noticed but patrick bateman is an unreliable narrator

all the evidence of his crimes disappears with no explanation, he stabs a child to death in public without any problems, an atm machine tells him to feed it a cat, he gets away with a public killing spree (including the murder of several police officers) without taking any measures to avoid being caught, he blows up a car by shooting at it, it's implied that he didn't even kill paul owen/allen, etc

as such all of the feats on the profile are dubious as they are told through the lens of bateman's extremely warped view of the world around him

how do we deal with this? do we just put a note at the end, stating that patrick's profile is based on the assumption that everything in american psycho was real? do we put possibly ratings on everything? should the profile even stay up?

also, what the **** is the canon on this profile? there are feats from like four different continuities listed on the profile, including one in which bateman is this eldritch reality warping metaphysical monstrosity. the rest of the profile is seemingly a combination of the movies and books. so yeah, the profile should be decomposited, if we’re even keeping it.

Necro but I guess I felt the need the reply for some reason. Usually for vs debating we have to take the most objective views on things, even for things up to interpretation (American Psycho is a great example seeing as not even the original writer for the book knows if he did it or not) but the simple answer is that if unless we have a reason to not believe what Patrick says or does, then we usually will.
(Also there are other novels written by the original author Brent Easton Ellis that have Patrick still being a murderer from other peoples perspectives)

As for the evidence for his murders being entirely gone, the whole point of the novel was it didn't matter to others if he killed anyone else or not. His lawyer could have easily all been covered up, no and the realtor could have also cleaned up Paul Allens place right? I do believe all of his best feats had no reason to not be real anyway. A small thing also is that if Patrick wasn't strong enough to pull off his best feats then he wouldn't believe he could? Whenever he does something super absurd, he usually acknowledges it himself like the car explosion.

I do not disagree 100% though, some of the feats here for the killings I just think can't be real and the comp-like nature of the profile is very confusing (genuinely don't know how that would happen). I'd like if it were deleted and have the seperate continuities be created

outside of the feats section, patrick’s profile seems to focus mostly on the movie. i think a separate profile for the books should be created with the small amount of book content removed from the og, that way patty poo doesnt lose all his matches
