About Necro Bumping

I've been holding off (because I'm lazy, and I got school, and an afterschool program) but I'm finally gonna do it.
The logic behind this is simple. A note in the necro rules stating something along the lines of: A CRT which has been accepted but the revision(s) have not been applied and has went dead, can be revived for the purpose of applying the revisions.

This makes good sense to me, although I don't clearly remember that we talked about it earlier.

If I remember correctly their was a thread some time ago that basically made it so necro bumping isn't any kind of rule violation or anything anymore.

So if their is a page that says you can't bump a thread that's like three months old or something because it's against the rules then that page is outdated and wasn't edited with the changes... still kind of annoying though, bumping a year old versus.

I think that we should have some kind of upper limit, and to give proper guidelines regarding when it is and isn't appropriate to bump a thread. For an example, an unfinished important revision that is not outdated is probably fine, as long as it has not been inactive for an extremely long time, but an outdated minor revision should have stricter standards.

I do not have any further specifics worked out though.

@AKM sama @Promestein @DontTalkDT @Ultima_Reality @DarkDragonMedeus @SomebodyData @Celestial_Pegasus @Soldier_Blue @Wokistan @Mr._Bambu @Elizhaa @Qawsedf234 @ByAsura @Sir_Ovens @Damage3245 @Starter_Pack @Ogbunabali @Abstractions @LordGriffin1000

What do you think?

Does anybody have some suggestions for how we could more specifically improve our current rules in this regard?

We can't really stop people from responding to completed threads entirely since they're supposed to be closed in the first place and most of the time it's people who are new to the site that respond to them. Maybe a guideline that outdated threads that are responded to will not be entertained and mods have a right to close them regardless of what is posted.

That seems to make sense, but we may need some sort of upper limit. The current one of (I think) 3 months seems too strict though.

My issue is that this sort of rule would have to vary depending on the thread. Here's my suggestion for a general outline:

  • Bumping threads older than, say, 6 months/a year is a necro
  • Important threads such as unresolved CRTs or wiki management threads aren't considered to be necros, though they can be outdated (and should be closed, if they are, per some staff member's discretion)
  • As Ovens said, don't bump completed threads, get someone to close it

Bambu's suggestions make sense to me. Thank you for helping out.

So should we apply these updated rules then?

It is best to wait for @AKM sama first though.

I agree with Bambu.

Just that if some CRT has been dead for over 3 months, I don't think any good comes out of bumping it. Because people might have unfollowed it or might not be interested, so it's better to start from scratch (important wiki-wide/staff threads or wiki management threads are exceptions).

In case of vs threads, I don't think bumping is a problem as long as the match isn't outdated.

Well, I personally prefer a longer timeframe than 3 months if the revision threads are sufficiently important and it is impractical to start over again.
