Considering he couldn't take down the spriggans? No

The chapter where Makarov dies, he casts Fairy law on Zeref's army. Irene notes that none of the spriggan went down, also considering Zeref invented the spell and Acnologia is all round resistant to magic then the chances of it working on them falls abysmally

Though I guess it's worth noting that using fairy law drains the users life force and factors such as Makarov's age and poor health could have also factored into the spells effectiveness

Possibly, he is more powerful than his grandfather so his chances do rise when it comes to the spriggan but anyone above say Invel or Lacarde wouldn't be affected. August and Irene are both resistant to magic (August by virtue of his magic and Irene by virtue of being a dragon) Zeref and Acnologia though are out of the question, Acnologia probably has the highest resistance to magic in FT and Zeref himself invented the spell (suggesting he understands its intricacies)

Yes it does, but it's still magic, if a character has a high enough resistance to magical attacks then it is very possible to no sell Fairy law irrespective of its ability to negate durability

@ryop: regardless of whether Mackarov or Laxus cast it Fairy law wouldn't work on Acnologia due to his resistance to and absorption of magic. Zeref, the best it would do is incapasitate him for awhile it couldn't kill him because he's immortal (unless it bypasses immortality)
@davidsteel1: Fairy law probably didn't affect the Spriggians because Mackarov likely only considered the berserkers his enemy; they were right in front of him trying to kill people he loved unlike the spriggians whom he would have forgotten about in the moment of casting.
