I've been seeing a lot of misconception that 3D is space and 4D is time so transcending time and space would make the character 5d
how do you guys debunk that?
i explain to them that its only 4D at best but i cant find a word to explain it clearly.

well it always depends on context
transcending space and time can mean a lot of things in fiction
if they can’t prove qualitative superiority then it’s most likely not 5d

The term “transcending” can have very loose definitions especially for a lot of fictions so it’s mostly done by in a case by case basis.

It’s why we have a qualitative superior tab in helps of determine valid higher dimensional entities.

If transcending space and time does not in anyway shape or form relate to the entire multiverse then it wouldn't really be 5-D, just transcending time and space is like half of the requirements to jump from 4-D to 5-D.
