A Large Pillow Blocks Elderly Man's Path (Mr Burns vs sleeping Snorlax, atypical battle assumptions, 7-0-0) (Concluded)

The sort of "there's a comically small obstacle, so you can't progress though plot yet!" things were widely mocked - as they're often so small or fragile, that even an Average Human could easily climb them or break them, as long as he's not subject to game mechanics. So i decided to have them as opponent in battle - and tried to find a variant which isn't just inanimate object (tree, pile of trash, boulder, etc), so it could count as "character". And to make sure i wouldn't accidentally create a Stomp thread, i decided to start with Below Average Human character, to whom such small obstacle is legitimately troublesome.

Cue highly atypical "battle" between Mr Burns and sleeping Snorlax on blocked path.

Battle happens on Pokemon Route, on important road blocked by sleeping Snorlax and surrounded from sides by steep rock ledges about the same height as prone Snorlax. It's not possible to pass through without climbing or otherwise somehow traversing either ledges or Snorlax.

Snorlax is completely in-character and isn't actively trying to win the battle. He's sleeping, and will continue sleeping for 1 month straight. He can't be awakened by anything, short of being hit with High 7-A attack or hearing PokeFlute. He doesn't know about Mr Burns, doesn't care about Mr Burns, and doesn't know that he's participating in a VsBattle. His goal, from his own standpoint, is taking a nap as usual. He lies prone, on his back, belly facing upwards, legs facing Mr Burns and head facing the other side of the road. Snorlax is normal-sized Snorlax (not Gigantamax).

Mr Burns is in character and trying to win. His goal is to cross to the other side of the road. He has his pistol and rifle. He is 10-C, but is strong enough to lift and use his own equipment. He can use any method necessary (e.g. climbing over Snorlax, climbing over ledges, using rifle for support when climbing, etc). In addition to standard knowledge of opponent, Mr Burns knows that Snorlax will remain sleeping for 1 month and is practically impossible to wake up prematurely.

Mr Burns's wincon is that he must get to the other size of the road alive in 1 week. Snorlax's wincon is if Mr Burns runs out of time (BFR) or gets killed somehow (e.g. from a bad fall or mis-jump; e.g. if using his rifle and comically small body mass to rocket-jump via recoil, but landing incorrectly). Mr Burns getting incapped by accident isn't directly wincon for Snorlax - only indirectly so, if it leads to Mr Burns dying or running out of time; if Mr Burns is incapped, but recovers and manages to cross the road, he still wins. Being incapped is not a loss condition for Snorlax (since he's arguable incapacitated throughout entire "fight"). Being "in a state in which they can not harm the other fighter" is not a loss condition for Mr Burns, and it isn't for Snorlax either.

Mr Burns starts at his own Standard Melee Range away from Snorlax.

Otherwise SBA, in parts which weren't overriden by assumptions above.

So let's take info about Mr Burns and Snorlax [https://simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/Charles_Montgomery_Burns] [https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Snorlax_(Pokémon)].

First, the "Rifle Rocketjump" strategy is not feasible - since 1) Burns is strong enough to use his own rifle, so he likely won't be blown away by recoil, and 2) if that worked, Burns would likely crash at ground at high speed and die. So actually climbing Snorlax is better option.

Also, this version of Mr Burns can lift himself due to his own small weight. He's light enough that he can stand on steam, be lifted by ant and blown back by lightbulb'ss light; so he should weight 1 kg at absolute highest estimate, likely lower. This version of Mr Burns can lift a rifle and pistol; for example, M16A1 (compact carbine) weights 2.89 kg, and M1 Garand (compact rifle) weights 4.31 kg - either gun weights a lot more than Mr Burns himself weights. In fact, this Mr Burns could lift himself with one arm. As such, he can do pull-ups and pull-downs, even with 1 arm.

Mr Burns is described as "Tall" to unknown extent. Average human male in USA is 1.763 meters (176.3 centimeters) tall [https://www.averageheight.co/averages/human-body-metrics/average-female-height-by-country/]. Mr Burns is taller than that, so we take 1.763 meters as lower estimate.

Snorlax is 2.1 meters (210 centimeters) tall. Whether or not Snorlax is still taller than he is wide or wider than he is tall is inconsistent among images from different sources. We'll assume that Snorlax is as wide as he is tall - 2.1 meters (210 centimeters), as a midpoint approximation; lower end being "taller than wide" and higher end being "wider than tall".

However, Snorlax's height can be broken into more manageable chunks. Head and limbs of prone Snorlax are about 1/2th as wide as prone Snorlax's height; proportions of limbs to body are, again, inconsistent depending on image. As such, one could climb at Snorlax's limb/head, then on belly, then at limb/head at other side and then on ground; in such case, each step would be about 1.05 meters (105 centimeters) tall.

So, could 10-C Mr Burns capable of doing pull-ups climb over 2.1 meters obstacle, while taking 1.05 meters steps? I think yes, albeit not casually.

Then we get to Mr Burns's Stamina. He completely tires out after running a few meters, and he can die of dehydration if he sweats even a single drop. I'd say that climbing over tall obstacles is as arduous as running. Entire Snorlax-climbing routine would be equivalent to 4.2 meters of running: 2.1 meters up and 2.1 meters down. In my opinion, "a few" is more than 2, so Mr Burns should have enough stamina for half the way. Then he could sit on top of Snorlax's belly for couple of minutes to regain Stamina; since Snorlax's belly is ideal place to sit or sleep, Burns would arguably regain Stamina even faster than normal; and then Mr Burns could climb down from Snorlax to other side of the road.

Now, chances of Mr Burns dying by accident are very small. Since Mr Burns doesn't use up entirety of his Stamina when climbing up or down, he shouldn't sweat himself to death. Since Snorlax is surrounded by tall rock ledges from his sides, he can't turn in his sleep and accidentally crush Mr Burns. Since coordination of Mr Burns is OK, he's not likely to mis-step and fall.

It would likely be like this: 0.5-2 minutes to climb on Snorlax's leg, 0.5-2 to climb on Snorlax's belly, 1-5 minutes resting on Snorlax's belly, 0.5-2 minutes to descend to Snorlax's head or arm, and 0.5-2 minutes to descend to ground on other side. 3-13 minutes total.

As such, since Mr Burns would reach his destination overwhelmingly more times than not, i vote Mr Burns. Which i then count.

Now this is my kind of Pokemon match.

That said, there are times where Mr. Burns gets blown around into the air, like being blown around by the wind, or a firehose making him fly & flail in the air while he held onto the hose.

I'd ask why he doesn't have preparation but odds are he wouldn't be able to handle carry around cash &/or a smart phone. Heck, he'd probably have trouble operating a phone, as in physically pressing the buttons, at his worst.

But if he has his gun, well....

In theory, but being he often gets carried by wind, he can be seen falling like paper, he might descend slowly.

Also, Snorlax's belly provides a soft landing & is a huge target.

(This assumes Monty doesn't waste the gun holding it to Snorlax's ears & firing it to try to wake it out of cruelty, hate & spite.)

Interesting. Have we ever seen Mr. Burns climbing?

I think I recall one episode where he went up the Loch Ness Monster's neck from its back or something.

This Mr Burns can lift his own rifle, as written above. And rifle likely weights more than Mr Burns himself.

"(This assumes Monty doesn't waste the gun holding it to Snorlax's ears & firing it to try to wake it out of cruelty, hate & spite.)"

Snorlax is practically impossible to wake up prematurely. PokeFlute is magic item, so it doesn't count. Cases of Snorlax being awakened when hit in battle don't count, since in that cases Snorlax was put to sleep against his will. I don't remember any case of someone waking up Snorlax sleeping out of his own accord via brute force.

Mr Burns's rife is most likely repeater with extra ammo. Even if he wastes some, he would still have enough for rocket-jump.

"In theory, but being he often gets carried by wind, he can be seen falling like paper, he might descend slowly. Also, Snorlax's belly provides a soft landing & is a huge target."

So rifle rocket-jump is feasible after all. He would rocket-jump via rifle's recoil, fly high in the air, drop rifle and slowly descend like sheet of paper.

"Interesting. Have we ever seen Mr. Burns climbing? I think I recall one episode where he went up the Loch Ness Monster's neck from its back or something."

That was 9-A Mr Burns. But 10-C Mr Burns capable of lifting himself could likely climb as well.

So: do i count your reply as vote for Mr Burns?

I think Burns could manage it through being blown through the wind.

It didn't have word "Vote". But after some thinking, i would count that as vote for Mr Burns. Correct me if i did something wrong.

I think Burns could manage it through being blown through the wind.
It didn't have word "Vote" and is very short. But after some more thinking, i would count that as vote for Mr Burns, barely. Correct me if i did something wrong.

Thinking about other such "obstacle course" "battles", but in those cases we would need some other obstacle:
  • Humans weaker than Mr Burns, such as The Authority, are usually unable to move at all, and so are unusable.
  • Other characters weaker than Mr Burns are usually small animals, who typically fly or climb well, so they would effortlessly climb over (Stomp).
  • Humans in realistic human ranges could climb over small obstacles quite easily.
  • Superhuman characters could push most obstacles away, jump over, climb or use hax.

Sleeping Snorlax is actually a very easy obstacle; Pokemon characters can't pass him due to Game Mechanics, Plot-Induced Stupidity and Character-Induced Stupidity.

So, what or who will be the obstacle and climber on next time?

Last vote was 18:18 on 05.12 - over 24 hours ago, and currently there is 19:34 06.12 - Mr Burns has 3 more Votes than Snorlax and Inconclusive. It's about 1 hour and 16 minutes as over.

So, this is about time to Conclude the fight and add it to Notable Fights?

Burns is smart enough to find a way around Snorlax since he is a businessman and stuff. Wouldn't be surprised if Burns simply just does something smart for once and does a costruct to get around snorlax.
Burns, mid diff.

Counted. Idea of just finding another route or building a bridge - simple yet it appeared so late.

Now i'm getting confused. Amount of votes for win is 3, 7 or 10? What are all breakpoints of votes?
  • For a verdict, there must be at least seven votes in favor of one character/team, with a minimum difference of three votes. Some examples:
    • A final vote tally of 6-0 will be considered invalid.
    • A final vote tally of 7-0 will be considered valid.
    • A final vote tally of 7-4 will be considered valid.
    • A final vote tally of 7-5 will be considered invalid.

So, the last vote was at 07.12 11:18, and currently there is 08.12 16:26. So, this is about time to proclaim that Battle is Concluded and Mr Burns has won, after which we add the link to battle to character profiles?

It's 17:18 already. Well, i think i conclude it. Br Burns has won. Now we write it to character pages.

VsBattles Time Zone is 3 hours earlier but time's still up.
