Opening the Hyperion Gate: A Modest God of War Proposal

Hey everyone, it’s Fuji back from the dead (as you’d expect from someone named after an immortal character). This is not a part of the main series of downgrades, in part because it’s not really a CRT as much as it is a proposal. As you might expect, the GoW downgrades will continue now that I'm back. However, there is a problem with our current approach - There is simply too much ground to cover. In the time since my ban, I’ve been continuing my research, and have effectively doubled the number of abilities we still need to go over, to say nothing of the magic system and cosmology downgrades that are still in the works.

At the rate we’re going, the revisions will last well into 2025. This does not mean I’m reverting to my old approach of shotgunning 50 abilities at once; I’ve learned my lesson from that. While I do think this is the superior approach, it does have an obvious problem attached to it; With every accepted thread, we need to have the profiles unlocked, and then immediately locked again, only to be unlocked two days later after the next thread. It’s a tedious process, one that is probably very annoying for content mods and admins to deal with, and ultimately slows down what is already a long and arduous task. So my proposal is simple: Unlock all GoW pages (every page in this category), and lock them again once the revisions are done (or if there is a sufficiently long gap between threads, which is unlikely).

Leaving really popular pages open for long periods presents its own set of problems, would it not be just as easy to leave them closed until your revisions are done and then apply them all at once?

Not that I fully disagree with either of these suggestions, but I think they run into the issue of each edit being needlessly complex. Removing dozens of abilities all at once while having to be mindful of formatting, categories, and the like is a lot more difficult than just doing it one bit at a time

Having four threads open at once sounds like a good idea in theory, but in practice I don't see much difference between that and just making one big CRT (an approach I've abandoned for good reason, as you're no doubt aware).

Hmm idk, we should probably consult Ant before opening such a large number of tier 1 profiles for such an extended period of time. Vandalism is still a concern after all.

I doubt it means much, but I'd be willing to watch over the GoW profiles to make sure nobody vandalizes them during the course of the revisions. Would help alleviate the burden on content mods, I suppose.

I think that this seems reasonable. 🙏

You can use the following page to help you with patrolling these character profile pages:

I used an automated bot while processing the mass lock across all tier 1 pages, I already opened up the pages. However, I do have a comment to make.

@Antvasima, don't you think it's a bit of a hassle to determine all those pages should be opened without further staff input? Especially God of War which has a good amount of staff supporters and popularity on this wiki. Like, considering what happened to Honkai which was a franchise that's been vandalised for 2 years, do you think it's really a guarantee that God of War pages won't be subjected to any undetected vandalism? At least I think it's a good idea to ping more staff members to use that editing script, so surveillance can be strengthened.

Nonetheless, I have an editing script with all of the page filters and colours. It only displays main pages and helps detect which unpatrolled edits are likely vandalism, so I think it can be of very good use.

What is being suggested here?
That all GoW pages remain unlocked for the duration of my downgrades, helping to expedite the process.
I'm unsure if that would be a good idea given it could attract a lot of vandalizers.
From my understanding of the situation, It was alright as long as Fujiwara monitored the GoW profiles, to make sure no vandalism happened, and if they did it was her job to fix it.
(She got permission from Ant)
Yes. I do not mind, as long as the downgrades do not take a very long time. 🙏

Well, Fujiwara said that she will help with ensuring that there is no vandalism during her editing, but staff help is obviously greatly appreciated as well. 🙏
I think that the "Main" setting should be removed, as other types of pages also need to be patrolled, but except for that I think that your script seems useful, although edit patrolling is more complicated than it can take into account, as many experienced members also tend to make editing mistakes regularly, which requires a system of memorisation.

Regardless, thank you very much for helping out. I will show your script in private to other staff members who help out with edit-patrolling. 🙏🙂❤️

Oh, that might be a problem, yes.

But does she mean that her individual currently accepted revisions of the GoW pages will last nearly that long, or just that she has more revision discussion threads planned afterwards?

Yeah, though, what I’m saying is that there might be malicious users out there that’s going to vandalise our pages; looking out for malicious activities should be a duty for the staff team — Fuji shouldn’t do that job just herself. I think Fuji is trustworthy enough to fulfill her CRT applications without much flaws.

You’re welcome. Anyone can just remove the :Main tag and they’ll see other pages as well. That script of mines is mainly used to patrol main pages of the wiki; I think it’ll be the most useful for patrolling the God of War pages during Fuji’s mass revision process.

The latter; I have a long list of threads planned, and I expect them to take a long time to get through, even if each one only takes two days. In fact, I have 8 or so new threads ready to be posted at any moment now. This is also excluding more complicated topics such as the cosmology or magic system.

She has more planned, which is why she wants to leave the pages opened so that every time one passes, we don't need to repeat the same song and dance of asking for profiles to be unlocked
Well, that does not seem like a good idea. It is quite easy for our content moderators and administrators to quickly mass-unlock and mass-lock all of the GoW pages by inserting its verse category into the "Mass Protect" script, so we can leave our wiki's GoW profile pages unlocked until Fujiwara's current revisions have been applied, and then lock them again until her next revision. 🙏

Yes. I suppose that I can ping some more content moderators and administrators to take a look here if you really think that it is necessary, but we patrol wiki edits every day anyway. I do not think that it would make a difference.

Okay. That is good then. 🙏

Well, we will probably have to unlock and re-lock the GoW pages during each phase of your revisions then. 🙏

This would have to be done about 20 times in a row, once for each thread, which would massively slow down the rate at which I'm able to apply the revisions. Earlier in the thread, you took issue with the idea that the revisions would last for an exceedingly long time; I'm confused, then, as to why you would make a decision that would make them take even longer. This is the best solution I can offer without compromising the threads themselves (as my prior attempt at shotgunning 50 abilities at once went poorly).

Like, I'm also not a fan of how long it's going to take, but that's also sort of out of my control. It's not my fault the verse is exceedingly bad in many regards. I mean, people are getting "life manipulation and creation" for the act of having normal sex, animal manipulation for riding a mount, and metal manipulation for blasting a gate with fire. It's fucking dire and I don't really appreciate how the amount of time needed to fix all of this is being made into my problem.

it really doesn't take that long for a staff member to unblock a page and then lock it again...and its really not that hard to just be patient and wait for some profiles to be unlocked..

Yeah well it's a different story when people are bitching at me to hurry things along so we don't have to spend the next year on GoW downgrades.

Please, can we keep the more serious words out of this, but I do agree. People are constantly pushing @Mad_Dog_of_Fujiwara to hurry up with the downgrades and implement them faster while taking their sweet time, opening the profiles, and coming to evaluate the profiles. (Whether this is due to lacking interest, being overworked, or simply choosing not to is an entirely separate matter.)

But it should be fine for her to keep the profiles open as long as she is showing proof to be able to moderate all of them herself no?
I apologize for the ping but I think this is important enough to do so.

Will the GoW pages end up with tier 1 statistics? If not, I suppose that we can likely unlock them, if you help out by placing them on your wiki watchlist. 🙏

I believe her intention is to eventually downgrade the Tier 1 statistics (though of course, that's also highly dependent on that revision being accepted to begin with)

No, my plan is to get rid of low 1-C scaling entirely. However, I should note that I plan to do all my ability downgrade threads first, as this is how I typically format long-winded revisions such as this. The cosmology downgrades will unfortunately be much later.
