Ninjago Discussion Thread

finished seasons 8&9, man I gotta say this series really just improves upon itself each season. The visual's look great and I like most of the redesigns. The villians these seasons(harmuai and garmadon) is pretty great to, I'd honestly put Harumi on or above nadakhan. As for Garmadons return it's very interesting to see him as an outright villain this time around instead of a loving father. I also like the lore drop of the oni and the dragon and further exploring the FSM. I also liked the wu aging subplot it was really fun to seem him at different stages of his life and get all the little flashbacks to when wu meet each of the og 4. I also liked llyods arc of having to accept his new reailty and adapt and change when the situation called for it. The scene were nya try's to give him a pep talk was great to, and I also like how misstako got elevated in relevance from being a npc for tea to a whole supporting character.

That all being said I do think some things could have been improved on. Like desipte the fact that Garmadon is back he never interacts with misako which kind of sucks, especially when we got that in s2. I was also hoping to see more of mr e and have his origins explained. Because there really shouldn't be any more nindriods besides the ones borg has made. And while it might be explained in ways of the departed I really feel like the show should have acknowledged or stated why the ninja just stopped using airjustu and there elemental dragons. Speaking of dragons, I'm still pisst that ultra dragon has just been written out of the series and still hasn't been acknowledged. And though I haven't talked about it much I have been powerscaling the series on my own and it's nice to finally get some good statements and feats(mostly in relation to garmadon). Though the spectacle and actually feats are still kind of lacking. Especially with Garmadon supposedly surpassing his father. Hopefully the following seasons well improve on that. Regardless though great seasons.

You might want to check this and rest of the Tales from the Monastery of Spinjitzu out. (They came out between season 9-10 and they are short anyways)
Also idk if season 9 outright tells you this so i'm putting a spoiler tag, but i'm pretty sure Iron Baron's throne is supposed to be Ultra's skeleton

they didn't even make it clear in the show that it was it's bones
 
Finished s10 and the oni trilogy, the trilogy in general is the best the series has been so far. Granted s10 ended off kind of mid. It wasn't bad but it honestly lacked a lot of meat in comparison to the previous seasons, The villans were kind of just there. Even the overlord was better then omega and the oni tbh. The main redeeming quality of the season was garmadon and llyod tbh. Kai also got a cool moment and jay proposed to nya so that was cool to. but for the most part mid ending to and otherwise great trilogy

Yeah S10 felt pretty rushed tbh
 
finished s11, there were a lot of changes this season. From runtime to animation and even episode styles(had a whole filler episode). I'll say I actually like the animation for the fights, there way better then anything we've had thus far. Though the shading and the lighting feel like a slight downgrade from the oni trilogy. As for the actual season, it felt like old school ninjago for better and worse. The villians were pretty paper thin and could have been way better. Aspheera could have easily been a top 3 ninjago villian but they just make her a hotter pythor and thats about it. Her connection to wu could have been so much deeper and intresting but nah. The ice emeperor thing was fine but the advisor guy also felt like wasted potential. Were just told how the guy felt or whatever but it would have been nice to actually see how him not getting a form mental messed with him in a flashaback or something. The character writing was fine but just in general a dip in quality from the oni trilogy. They did bring back some more comedic elements which I did like. But overall the season was fine, I'm kind of optimistic for the series to improve as it's done in the past so well see what season 12 brings.
