Devil May Cry Discussion Thread

Can't talk about the data collection stuff since I've been pretty away from the last console gens but the micro transactions are just a dumb complain, like, they already tried that with the vanilla version remember? Devs laughed at that and made Faust

Unless there is something extra with the switch 2 I missed of course, but otherwise meh every single company already steals your data

Yes, they did well that time.

I think this means all DMC games are now on switch/Nintendo, right?

For some reason you guys didn't edit Dante's page and add to it 4th Aspect too

I blame @SuperSonicTL

He dismissed the original Dante as a gay cowboy, suggesting Dante wasn't cool because of how he saw him that way (I've seen some absolutely awesome gay characters and worked with some awesome gay people, so right away he's a fool), and then the game had that stupid scene with the wig. Attacking the audience is bad practice, and it's getting less popular nowadays.

Not like that. That was out of context. Alessandro, the art director made a joke that Capcom told them to make a western version of DMC. Then he showed the image. Just look at 01:45. The fanbase took that "they said Dante is a gay cowboy!". And that echo chamber spread like a disease.
Ninja Theory knew DMC and submitted a version similar to the original series.

But Capcom said no.

I already learned the history of the reboot years ago, and I'm not even mad about it.
But the fanbase has been criticizing how El Donte looks without knowing this. That was Capcom's decision.
I personally liked the reboot. Ninja Theory did a great job considering the harsh conditions Capcom gave them. And it's understandable that they felt annoyed when ignorant children accused them of doing what Capcom had asked them to do. That's how Capitalism works.
and then the game had that stupid scene with the wig.
I took it as the fanbase kept sending death threats and threats of violence, so they just gave them a middle finger in return. El Donte actually liked his new look, which was quite similar to the original series, as shown in Vergil's downfall.

I think Capcom needed a sacrifice like Ninja Theory because they were afraid to reboot the series themselves and chose to shift the responsibility. Because obviously, Capcom Japan is incompetent when it comes to narrative writing. Zeno in RE9 was the example. An asspull after a retcon, they never learned from Nero. They lack a consistent plan and a coherent story.
People who criticize the reboot’s story tend to lack reading comprehension and have zero knowledge of the occult but only care about Dante’s appearance. That's why they love Netflix Devil May Cry🥀

I'm aware Capcom is responsible.

That is a straw man made to discredit the people who prefer the original. It wasn't the hair colour as was repeatedly said, it was that people wanted the same characters back, not a reboot.

Actually, many fans detest both. I actually think Netflix is worse than the reboot, for a few reasons. Firstly because it is reshaped around political stuff that has no place there. While the reboot did have some political stuff in there, it was only part of the picture, not all of it. Second, the reboot at least had a truly heroic figure in Donte. For all its flaws, if we treat it as its own thing Donte still was a capable heroic figure who fought for what was right and saved the day. He still looked impressive getting shot in the back while carrying Kat and not flinching, and he still beat lots of serious demons. Nante on the other hand is a clear attempt to deconstruct not only DMC, but the entire concept of heroism. That's why he's incompetent and you aren't supposed to respect him. The fact he's a dog working for Mary, an honestly awful person who kicks her "dog", only makes that more obvious. Attempts to deconstruct heroism always fail, because all they do is showcase what happens if no true hero is present, they don't deconstruct anything. By that system suffocating in space deconstructs oxygen.

I mostly agree with your comment except for this part. Many people who don't like DmC also don't like Netflix DMC; some even prefer DmC to Netflix DMC.
