Re Zero Discussion Thread: Season 4 is Real

The episode itself was really good, i loved how they put the error sign when that scene happened
Oh yeah, that confused me a lot. I guess I’ll see whats happening

My theory rn is Archbishop of Lust is messing with them, because Lust Witch took the shape of Rem in S2 and here we saw “Rem” kill Subaru

Edit: Can someone explain what are these break time chibi animations?

Re:Zero Break Time is a series of canon shorts, one episode for each episode of the Re:Zero anime except for season 1 episodes 12-25. Usually they adapt minor cut content that reveals a bit of world building or characterization. But some adapt crucial plotpoints, such as Aldebaran's circumstances. (Also, note that Re:Zero Petit is not the same as Break Time and is not canon)

Do you know which ones are about Al? He is easily one of my favorite side characters and I am curious (unfortunately I got spoilered about his situation and power)

Why aren't we scaling Subaru up to the level of the bandits who attacked him in the alley in the first few episodes? Their profiles are 9-A, and Subaru easily defeated them with the right mindset. Although, honestly, scaling them up to Rom just because of an interview seems odd. Obviously, a giant should be stronger than them.

Yooo you also watch Re Zero? Cool

Subaru is such a jerk in season 1. During the fight with Julius and his conversation with Emilia, I feel the same shame for him as I did 10 years ago.
Jesus, man, after all the shit you did, I'd go back in time
although i did feel that too, its a good showcase of his worst moments. Technically speaking though, in his argument with Emilia, he isnt completely wrong but they cant openly talk about it because of Satella

I have come to like that scene over my rewatches though purely because of how well written it is

Why doesn't he say something like, "There's one serious thing I really want to say, but I can't for reasons beyond my control"?

He does, but nobody believes him, you will see when you continue watching

plus its not like him saying that would help her understand him at all, she already mentioned the entire reason was because he couldnt tell her

I finished watching season 1. Absolute cinema.
The episode where Puck destroys the world and Subaru dies cursing Petelgeuse really touched my heart. I haven't enjoyed an anime this much in a long time.
I love the reactions of new viewers, so my opinion of you gets better than it already was rn :d
Subaru is definitely in my top 5 favorite main characters.
It'll be higher :devilish: (How was it while you were in episode 13 or until that time? :d)

I don't know how much of a new viewer I am. I watched this season 10 years ago, but back then, the CIS community wasn't used to psychological thrillers and broken protagonists, so everyone called Subaru a crybaby and a weakling. Just like any other character who dared to cry and complain about their suffering.
Of course, this anime looks better at a more mature age.

I'm watching the 13-episode, almost hour-long series, so I don't know which one you're talking about. By the way, they made Felix a girl in the Russian dub, lol
Subaru Vs Kaneki when
I think it would be interesting to switch them around at the very beginning of the story

Oh, you watch the director cut version, ok.

I was referring to the episode where Subaru declares himself as Emilia's knight, fights Julius, loses and then argues with Emilia.

I paused the episode several times because I'm very empathetic and I was drowning in shame when he first embarrassed Emilia, then tried to sneakily attack Julius.
Also, to be honest, his scene with Rem, where they discuss their feelings, is very drawn-out and feels like they're repeating the same thing over and over again. But that's just the conventions of Japanese storytelling.

Murder Becomes a Habit day today. Can't wait to see my favourite interlude adapted. Still crazy the way ■■ clocked her lol
“—So shallow…” She caught her breath. He didn’t turn around, but his words gripped her heart.

How did I get caught? My footsteps were silent. I’m not stupid enough to just walk around and make it obvious I mean to kill. —No, now isn’t the time for that. Smile, make a flirty gesture, act normal.

“Don’t make eyes at me, it’s disgusting. No one wants that sort of thing from you.” She was interrupted, silenced. Her thoughts raced. She tried to find the best answer. What was the black-haired boy after?

“Don’t feign innocence, little doll. Can’t you hear what you really want in that heart of yours?”

What you really want.

For some reason that clichéd expression seeped into her ears and she couldn’t get it out.

“Lend an ear to your wish. If you do, you’ll glimpse a little bit of what you really are. And if you see yourself, it’ll be easier to understand what you truly want.” —Volume 23 Interlude: "Meili Portroute"

I'm a bit confused. Why were Volume 24's illustrations used in Meili's backstory? From my knowledge, her backstory is only in volume 23.

Are there any adaptations of alternative histories of Re Zero? I heard about Root with Rem and Pride.
The IF routes do not have adaptations into other mediums, so no manga or animation. There are two routes with significantly extended Light Novel versions, that being Rem IF (Sloth) and Kasaneru IF (Greed). Ayamatsu IF (Pride) will also get a Light Novel adaptation soon.

I'm a bit confused.
All the Meili stuff got somewhat bundled together I think. For example her torture at Mama's hands wasn't in her named interlude, but was brought up in Subaru's thoughts later.

Are these side stories long? Are they worth reading?

They're not canon, so I'd probably say "no". There are canon side stories that matter more. But I do think both Rem IF and Kasaneru IF light novels make for interesting reads. This is a link to the Re:Zero database which has more info. I can link you to Rem IF or Kasaneru IF if you really want to read them.

As for canon side stories that are really good, the Ex Novel series is great: there's Ex1 which depicts Crusch and Ferris's past and the death of the royal family; Ex2, 3, and 6 which depicts the story of Wilhelm and Theresia during and after the Demi-Human Civil War; Ex4 which depicts Julius, Reinhard, and Ferris on a mission in the foreign Vollachia Empire; and Ex5 which depicts Priscilla's and Aldebaran's past.

There are also short stories like "Once Upon a Time in Lugunica" or "Golden Siblings". As well as blu-ray prequel side stories that have so far all been really good, like "Oni Sisters of the Hidden Village" for Rem & Ram, "Apocalypse Girls" for Elsa, and "Loving the Days Gone By" for Beatrice and Puck. I linked those latter two earlier:
In the meantime you should read some peak fiction that's safe for anime-only fans like Re: Loving the Days Gone By From Zero (Beatrice and Puck, 400 years ago) and Apocalypse Girls (Elsa's origin story).

The newgens don't know there was an og Happy Birthday Re:Zero larp. Oldhead larpers LOVED "Happy birthday, Reinhard!". That alongside "I saw a dream. A dream that wouldn't end." and "Patching together, patching together." No one could quote Oboreru bc it put them to sleep too quick.
